10 October 2003 - Snapping At Those Who Care

Nessa and Tegan

Gwen and Bobby

Gwen wheeled herself out of the room and into the kitchens, noting to herself how much she hated the wheelchair. And hating how much she'd adjusted to being in it all the time. There had only been a few times when she tried to walk, and each time she remembered she couldn't, it was like learning about it all over again. She was hurting, but no one could make that go away.

She grumbled as she wheeled her way around the kitchen, narrowly avoiding running into Bobby again.

"Hey," he said softly.

"Yeah," she replied, navigating herself around.

"Do you want me to make you something to eat?"

"No, I'm fine." Gwen clenched her teeth. "Thank you."

"Are you ok?"

"Bobby, I'm in a freaking wheelchair, do I look like I'm ok?" Gwen fixed him with a mean stare.

"I'm sorry, I just - "

"And that's another thing, I wish everyone would stop being so damn sorry, for Christ's sake!"

"Gwen, I... I thought - "

"Well don't think. It doesn't suit you."

"Gwen!" Bobby was shocked.

"What? You know, God, it's really not polite to stand in front of me when I'm clearly trying to do something."

"I'm sorry, I - "

"Stop being sorry! F*ck you, and f*ck this!" Gwen angrily wheeled herself from the room, before her tears fell. She didn't want any damn sympathy. She just wanted her damn life back. She wheeled herself out of the school grounds and looked around, confused. Where was she going to go? Even if she could escape, it's not like she could get very far in this state. She buried her head in her hands and cried.

Bobby set off to find Vortigern, he'd know what was going on with both Gwen and Mordred. He eventually found him.

"Uh... Vort? Hi."

Vortigern

"Hey. Bobby."

Vortigern tried to smile, but the pain cascading over the link from Mordred made it hard.

"So...wanting to talk?"

His hand tapped a pencil nervously against a sketchpad. Half started sketches littered the page. None of them up to his usual standard.

Bobby

"Yeah... if that's ok?"

Bobby smiled nervously.

"I'm sorry to come and dump this on you, but, I figured you'd probably know what's going on... Gwen... she just completely snapped at me in the kitchen. And she knocked me out yesterday."

Vortigern

"Yeah, yeah, that's fine...fine."

Vortigern took a breath.

"They're both hurting. A lot. Faolan won't even stay in the same room as either of them...he's empathic, and it's hurting him as well."

The pencil tapped again.

"I don't know...she's just, very very frustrated."

Bobby

Bobby rubbed at the bump on the back of his head.

"Yeah, I figured."

He sighed.

"Is there any way... I'm guessing Lorne didn't help?"

Vortigern

"He...couldn't read her," Vortigern said quietly.

A particularily large burst of pain from Mordred, and he winced slightly, fingers tightening around the pencil.

"It...didn't go down well."

Bobby and Gwen

"Oh... so a bad idea by me then."

Bobby fidgeted.

"Has anyone been able to talk to either of them? Has she let him now what she's feeling?"

Gwen's shoulders shook as she sobbed heavily, shooting electricity at anything that crossed her path. People, animals, insects, anything that moved was shot at.

Vortigern and Mordred

Vortigern straightened in his seat. "No...they haven't really. Mordred took another punching bag to pieces...that can tell you how he's feeling."

Mordred entered the kitchen and went to Gwen. "Gwen! Gwen, love, you need to calm down..." He put his hands on her shoulders, not caring if she shocked him by accident.

"Gwen's a whole nother matter." Vortigern studied his hands.

Gwen and Bobby

"Maybe... maybe a counsellor? Maybe, I don't know, hypnosis or something? I saw this show once, where they used hypnosis, and yeah, they go back into the accident, but they say how they're feeling..." Bobby paused. "Gwen was right, thinking really doesn't suit me."

Gwen bit her lip.

"I am calm," she said coldly.

Mordred and Vortigern

"Thinking does suit you, Bobby," Vortigern said in concern. "Don't listen to Gwen when she says stuff like that. She's hurting, and she wants to hurt everybody else as well."

"Gwen, Gwen, *please*, cariad, you're scaring the students," Mordred said quietly.

Bobby and Gwen

Bobby nodded. "I just... I hate seeing her like this... and him too. They need help, but... I don't know what I can do."

Gwen crossed her arms.

"Good, I'm glad. Gives them more to talk about, doesn't it?"

Mordred and Vortigern

"To be honest? Neither do I," Vortigern admitted. "Damn, this is just..."

"Gwen, you don't mean that," Mordred pleaded. "Please, just...get your sparks under control. You could really hurt somebody."

Bobby and Gwen

"Maybe... I've never been a huge believer in magick, but maybe there's some sort of spell that could help?" Bobby asked.

"Oh we wouldn't want to hurt the precious students, would we?" Gwen asked sarcastically. "No, much too fragile."

Nevertheless, she controlled her sparks.

Mordred and Vortigern

"I don't know. Maybe." Vortigern banged his head against the back of his chair. "You know, this is when I really wish Nyx would come back..."

"Thank you, mo cariad," Mordred murmured, kissing her cheek.

Bobby and Gwen

"Yeah..." Bobby rubbed his chin. "Or maybe... maybe they need to talk to each other, before anything can happen."

A tear fell from Gwen's eyes.

"I don't mean to be so horrible," she cried. "I just... I hate being this way. And I can't stop thinking about it."

Mordred and Vortigern

"Maybe." Vortigern sighed. "But neither one is going to. They're being...strong for each other, is I believe the way they're terming it."

"I love you," Mordred whispered. "I know, angel, I know..."

Bobby and Gwen

Bobby frowned. "Maybe... I'm running low on ideas... well what if... you know how everyone is being overly nice to them? It's not normal, what if someone was like rude to them? Reverse psychology or whatever..."

Gwen reached for Mordred's hand.

"I don't like being here... when can... when can we go somewhere else?"

Mordred and Vortigern

"It's an idea..." Vortigern thought about it. "Spike would. If I asked him to."

"When Dr McCoy says you can," Mordred said gently. "As long as there's any hope, any hope at all...I know he's working on the blood samples that he took when you got sick."

Gwen and Bobby

"Because, I don't know, maybe if they both got angry enough... they'd say how they were feeling? Might work," Bobby said, shrugging. "I don't know... just a thought. You know, this is providing more thinking for me than years of Physics ever did."

Gwen squeezed his hand.

"I just don't like it anymore. I just... I'm tired, and sleeping isn't helping because I'm just seeing - nothing. Nothing."

Mordred and Vortigern

Vortigern chuckled slightly. "Let you in on something...school is something I never did well at either. Just Art. Except I can't even seem to draw anymore..."

"We'll get through this, we will. Together." Mordred squeezed her hand back. "I can get Dr McCoy to give you some more painkillers or something."

Bobby and Gwen

"Yeah, well it's probably worry that's making you feel that way. I've seen your stuff, you're good." Bobby smiled at him.

Gwen looked tearfully at Mordred. "Am I going to die?" she asked quietly.

Mordred and Vortigern

"Yeah, probably." Vortigern spun the pencil in his hands. "When I was in Paris...I sold a painting. I might get some of my stuff in some galleries over here as well..."

"No. No love. Not for a very long time..." Mordred pressed his face into her neck and kissed her.

Bobby and Gwen

"That would be pretty amazing. An accomplished artist on campus. What would my parents say?" Bobby grinned.

Gwen clutched at his hand. There were so many things she wanted to tell him, but she couldn't hurt him like that. He could never know.

"I love you," she said softly.

Mordred and Vortigern

"I don't know..." Vortigern grinned. "Yay?"

"I love you too, mo cariad. I love you with all my heartand soul." A tear slipped down Mordred's cheek.

Bobby and Gwen

Bobby chuckled. "Probably. But in much more words. One word is never enough."

Gwen looked at Mordred in horror and kissed his tear away.

"Please don't cry," she pleaded. "I can't stand to see you hurting."

Vortigern and Mordred

"Oh, I don't know. Logan seems to find one word is plenty enough." Vortigern frowned. "Except when he's berating you for something. Then he uses a lot of words."

"I know, I know." Mordred closed his eyes briefly to get control of himself. "I can't stand to see you hurting like this, angel..."

Bobby and Gwen

Bobby smiled slightly. "I meant my parents. They can never be happy with one word."

Gwen kissed him again softly.

"I know, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. We... this isn't fair, is it? We should be on our honeymoon, enjoying life not - " She cut herself off, biting her tongue. She wouldn't say, she wouldn't.

Mordred and Vortigern

"Parents. Psssh." Vortigern waved a hand slightly. "They're so nosy all the time..."

"No, it isn't fair. But you have to play the hand you're dealt," Mordred said softly. "We'll...we'll get through this, cariad."

Bobby, Gwen and Paige

"Yep. Stupid parents." Bobby nodded. "Anyway, I'll let you get back to it." He turned and fidgeted as he left.

Gwen nodded. She had to be strong for him. But... maybe...

"I know. I need... I might take a spin outside, I'll be back later."

Gwen kissed his hand, then let go and wheeled herself out the front of the school where she called for Paige.

Paige orbed in and took in the wheelchair with a shocked look.

"Can you... can you try..."

Paige nodded and bent down to heal her.

Nothing.

Gwen looked at Paige in desperation. "Take me to someone who can."

Paige sighed and touched the chair and orbed them into Tulsa.

Mordred and Vortigern

Mordred's head snapped up. "GWEN!"

He ran out to where he felt her last and fell to his knees, sobbing.

Vortigern pushed past Bobby and ran for his twin.

"She left, oh god, Vort, she left...and I can't find her!"

Vortigern wrapped his arms around his twin as Mordred howled with agony and latched onto him like a drowning man lost at sea.

"It's alright, it's alright..."

"OH GOD!"

Halliwells, Leo and Gwen

Phoebe and Piper stood aback as Paige and Gwen orbed in.

"Ah..." Phoebe started.

"Car accident. Can we get Leo?" Paige asked.

Leo orbed in. "You called?"

Paige pointed at Gwen, and Leo walked over to try and heal her.

Nothing.

Gwen's lip trembled. "I figured."

"Maybe... uh..." Leo paused, sensing her pain. "Perhaps... perhaps you should tell Mordred about that."

"I can't. Because it'll hurt him. Please... can someone orb me back to the school. To my room?" Gwen folded her arms.

Leo sighed. "You should... nevermind. I'll come to check on you later."

Leo orbed her back to the middle of her room, where she started to cry. Nothing was going to work. Nothing.

Mordred

Mordred felt her arrive back at the school, and ported, leaving Vortigern to stumble.

"Oh god, Gwen, please don't leave me," Mordred pleaded, tears rolling down his face. "Whatever I said, I did, I'm sorry."

Gwen

Gwen looked at him, and smiled sadly.

"I wasn't leaving, my darling boy."

She reached for his hand.

"I was looking for a solution... but... none."

She sighed.

"Typical."

Mordred

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I should've been able to stop this..." Mordred put his arm around her. "I should've seen the car coming..."

Gwen

"No, Mordred, no. It wasn't your fault."

Gwen kissed him sweetly.

"Not your fault, not yours, never yours. Ok? Don't blame yourself love, because I don't blame you. What happened, happened for a reason... everything does." Gwen swallowed hard. She had to accept it. It's what she'd be like forever.

Mordred

"I love you..." Mordred whispered. He couldn't cope with this. He was breaking down. But he couldn't show that in front of her.

Gwen

"I love you too."

Gwen kissed his nose.

"Come on, let's not be so sad. We're alive."

"Just barely..."

"And we're married, come on, let's do something normal. As normal as we ever get. Watch TV, watch Vort paint, pose for Vort, anything."

Mordred

"You want to go watch TV?" Mordred smiled, then wiped his eyes. "I'm sure we can find something. Or we can exercise our privledges as seniors student slash adults to boot whoever's in there out."

Gwen

"You raise an excellent point, my darling boy."

Gwen kissed him gently and gave a small smile.

"Plus we can always tell them we had sex and stained that couch. They'll probably never come in again."

She paused.

"I don't really want to wheel in there... could you port me in or..."

Mordred

"I'll 'port. Just let me check..."

Mordred closed his eyes to make sure no one was on the couch in the rec room. It was refreshingly empty.

"It's clear."

He touched her arm and 'ported them both to seated positions on the couch.

Gwen

Gwen shifted with her arms so she could lay her head in Mordred's lap. She looked at her legs and then, sighing, lifted them up, one by one, onto the couch, then settled her head back on Mordred, fingers dancing on his thigh.

She smiled cheekily at him, then flipped the TV on with s spark of electricity.

Mordred

Mordred smiled down at her and bent slightly so he could kiss her.

"Love you, mo cariad."

He settled back to watch whatever was on TV, fingers playing with her hair. And he could almost pretend...

Gwen

"Love you too," Gwen said, yawning slightly.

She flipped over to a movie channel and shifted her head slightly on his lap, then reached for his free hand and entwined their fingers.

She would be ok... she would survive.

Mordred

"When you want...tell me, and we'll go back to the room," Mordred said quietly. "Don't stay out because you think I want to."

Gwen

"I'm ok."

Gwen looked up at him.

"Really... and since when have I ever done anything because I thought you wanted to?"

She smiled cheekily at him.

Mordred

"Ahhhh...." Mordred raised an eyebrow. "That's a good point. Well...you said yes cos I wanted you to." He grinned.

Gwen

"I said yes because I wanted to," Gwen grinned back. She shifted her head. "Let's not forget where I'm lying, I could hurt your goods at anytime I wish..."

Mordred

"Hmmmm..." Mordred hesitated. "I can't think of anything."

Gwen

"Yep... like..."

Gwen poked at him.

"Like that."

Mordred

"Like what?" Mordred trailed his fingers along the line of her jaw.

Gwen

Gwen moved so she was sitting up and rested her head on his shoulder for a second, then leaned up and kissed him.

"Like that."

She let her hand run over his chest, softly over his ribs.

"Are you in pain?" she asked quietly, concerned.

Mordred

"S'alright." Mordred shrugged slightly. "Nothing I can't handle. Just...aches a bit."

Gwen

"Baby..."

Gwen kissed him again.

"I hate that you're hurting..."

Mordred

"Eh, I've broke ribs before." Mordred shrugged. "Comes of getting in fights when you can't really fight..." He grinned. "Can now though."

Gwen

"You couldn't beat me," Gwen teased. "I could whip your ass anyday, buddy."

Mordred

"Yeah...cos you'd shock me. Or you'd pout. ANd then I'd just have to kiss you. And you can't fight while you're kissing." Mordred bent his head to do that thing, tongue seeking entrance to her mouth,

Gwen

Gwen parted her lips and kissed him tenderly.

"Yeah, I love winning."

She grinned and kissed him again.

"It's all coming up Gwen."

Mordred

"Mmmm..." Mordred murmured against her lips. "Like it should."

Gwen

Gwen grinned and kissed him.

"Yep... everyone should bow down and kiss my feet."

She paused.

"Well, I wouldn't exactly feel it."

Mordred

"Just as long as I'm the only one who kisses your mouth, or here..." He kissed along her jaw to her neck. "Or here..." He placed two kisses on her breasts. "Very emphatically the only one who kisses there. They can kiss your hands."

Gwen

"Dang," Gwen joked. "I was looking forward to nights of wild orgies."

She lifted his head to hers and kissed him passionately.

"Never would want anyone else, not while I have you, my perfect angel," she whispered honestly.

Mordred

"I'm no angel." Mordred looked slightly uncomfortable. "I'm just a wolf...but I'm your wolf. Always yours, mo cariad." He kissed her again.

Gwen

"That's right, you are always mine."

Gwen kissed him back.

"And if you ever think differently, I will be most put out."

Mordred

"Never, never..." Mordred smiled. "Could never think otherwise."

Gwen

"Good."

Gwen smiled back at him.

"I'd fight to get you back anyway. And everyone knows I'd win... what with me being so amazing and all. That and I'd run anyone over."

Mordred

"You're perfect. There isn't and never will be a woman to match you in my eyes." Mordred kissed her slowly and sweetly. "I love you."

Gwen

Gwen carefully put her arms around his neck, careful not to hurt him.

"I love you."

She kissed him again.

"Always."

Mordred

"Always and forever, my love," Mordred said. He lifted her hand with his own and tapped the wedding band. "I love you. This ring...is just an outward symbol of my devotion to you. But it's a neverending cycle...just like our love. With no beginning and no end in sight..."

Gwen

Gwen kissed him softly.

"I love you, always."

She moved some hair from his face.

"I just wish..." she trailed off. "I wish I wasn't like this..."

Mordred

"I love you. I love *Gwen*." Mordred kissed her. "Your body isn't who you are. Though it's a fantastic body." He frowned slightly. "I'm not making sense, am I?"

Gwen

"No, I understand."

Gwen kissed his frown.

"You're making perfect sense."

She settled down in his lap again and started to watch TV.
