Wesley
"A, B, C, D..." Serafina said clearly as she turned over the pages of her book.
Wesley listened as he was translating something for Angel.
"E, F, G, H, I..."
Serafina read through the entire alphabet, then got up and put the book on Wesley's desk.
"More?" She asked, eyes wide as she smiled.
"Ah, yes. I did ask Cordy to get some more books..."
Wesley turned slightly in his chair to get another of the easy learn- to-read books he'd asked Cordelia to purchase.
Serafina looked at what he was translating and started to read it slowly. "(And lo, for the day will come when the Two Lands, beloved mother earth of the black and the red, shall come under attack. And the gods themselves shall fall...)"
Wesley looked at Serafina. "You can read that?"
"Uh huh." Serafina nodded. "Mama taught us all the signs."
"Can you speak it as well, (little cat)?"
"(I like this speech better. The language of the foreigners from across the seas is not sweet on my tongue.)"
"Well, that's...extremely interesting."
Trust Nyx to teach her children heiroglyphs but not English.
"Would you help me translate this then?"
"Uh huh!" Serafina nodded vehemently and put her arms up. Wesley picked her up and sat her on his lap. She studied the papyrus scroll, then cleared her throat. "Says that the Two Lands shall come under attack. And the gods will fall down."
"Which has happened..."
"Oh nono. See?" Serafina pointed at a sign. "Dis means that it will happen again. You write it down, the signs make it true." She looked thoughtful. "I bet the scribe who wrote this got into a lot of trouble. It's against ma'at."
"Maybe he did...so, what's supposed to happen next?"
Serafina's lips moved as she translated inside her head.
"One will be taken. And one shall remain. The one that goes shall be brought up far from ma'at. But it's in the blood, and no matter how the evil one tries, she-"
"She?"
"She. Very much she. Will not be able to sever the bonds of blood. Ma'at will prevail though the Beast shall try to devour it and bring the world to chaos."
Serafina beamed at Wesley.
"New book now? Can I write?"
Wesley handed a pad of paper and a pencil to Serafina and set her on the floor.
Serafina muttered to herself as she carefully replicated the alphabet on her paper, glancing at the book as she did so.
Well, that was definetly food for thought...though it didn't seem to apply to Serafina. What could it be?
Wesley recommenced looking for prophecies, ceremonies and rituals that might apply to Serafina and her littermates.
