The Eye and Miette
Miette was all smiles as the Eye entered the great hall.
"I'm so glad you've made it sweetie!" she gushed. "It's been sooooo long since we last saw you, and there have been so many changes."
The Eye took a long look around and finally settled on Miette.
"Things have changed."
"Didn't I just say that?"
"You've made a cult!"
"Yes!" Miette giggled. "And who better to worship than me?"
The Eye was silent for a moment.
"Why should anyone worship you, Miette?"
"Why? I can do things no one else on this planet can."
"And many have that same claim to fame."
"So tell them to start their own cults," Miette giggled. "Y'know what? I really have to congratulate that Spook girl. Why if she hadn't disabled Li's command in my, mmm... little friends, why, I wouldn't have been forced to find a more... persuasive way to make peopel submit. Why rule by fear, when you can rule by love?"
"Love?"
"Love is so much more powerful than fear. That kind of loyalty can't be bought. People die to protect those they love - and you can consider that a warning, sweetie, in case you decide to try any of your telepathy on anyone here."
"And how is anyone going to know?" The Eye drawled.
Miette was all smiles.
"Well, let's just say I'm not short of telepaths," she grinned. "That and the fact that, well, my most loyal worshipers get a very special gift."
"And what would that be?"
"Wouldn't you like to know?"
The Eye considered looking in her mind. He knew he could do that much without being detected. He decided against it. He wasn't entirely certain just how far his meddling in her mind had gone. He knew that no changes he had made could make her go against her strongest inhibitions, but after Kansas, and now starting a cult? Who knew what she was capable of!
"What did you ask me here for?" he asked finally.
"I'm so glad you asked," Miette smiled. "I have a little plan, and there's something I want you to do for me."
