22 January 2003 - A meeting in the cemetery

Nyx

Nyx sighed as she tried to meditate. Sitting out in the middle of the grassy space, surronded by tombstones, her crypt off to her left, you'd think cemetery's would be quiet places. The people in them being dead and all. But this was the Hellmouth, and whoever that was, was making a hellacious amount of noise. Nyx rose supplely to her feet, green eyes spitting irritated sparks as she walked over to the disturbance. She flopped down on her stomach as a blonde woman flanked by a red haired witch and a brunette girl took out several fledges. Nice technique, she appraised silently. Soon, the vamps were dust and Nyx rose to her feet, clapping slowly. The three whirled around and Nyx grinned. Causing havoc was her purpose in this life.

Dawn

Dawn whipped around, her hair hitting her lightly in the face as she turned fast. There was a girl standing there, unafraid, and somewhat amused.

"Who are you?" Buffy demanded? Dawn wouldn't have been so rude, but her sister seemed to lak a certain amount of tact at times.

Nyx

"Ooh, someone needs a good lay, there." Nyx grinned before walking down the slight rise to the three. She could handle them though the witch was super strong. Maybe...a witch to match her. She'd been looking. "OK, we have three here. Blonde and bitchy, red and witchy, and a sweetie pie. Hey, cutie." Nyx flirted with the startled girl. "Name's Nyx."

Dawn

Dawn's eyes widened. "Um, Hi. I'm Dawn," she said, shyly.

"Dawn, stay back," Bufy warned, going into Slayer-bith mode. "All right, who, and WHAT are you, and what the hell do you want?"

"Buffy, chill out, she has power, I can feel it," Willow replied, "But I don't think she's evil. Emphasis on probably not."

Nyx

"Me? I'm a sweet lil' pussycat." Nyx sniggered. "And I wasn't talking to you either, PMS-ing. I was talking to sweetie. And Red here has it aright...in a way." Nyx edged closer, and then her eyes widened and she started to sneeze as a waft of Buffy's scent hit her. "Oh geez, girl, what is *with* you? You're not alive, but you don't smell like a vamp, or a zombie, or even a ghost! What in the name of the Eternal Mother?" Nyx retreated slightly, still sneezing, eyes watering and waving her hands in front of her nose. Buffy looked at her outraged.

Dawn

Buffy's jaw dropped. "You can smell me? Alright, you have GOT to be a vampire." Buffy was rather touchy when supernaturaly things comented on her smelling dead. Picking up her sword she moved to decapitate the short girl before anyone could stop her.

"Buffy, wait!" Willow yelled, and Dawn was scared, she liked the pretty woman.

"No Willow, she's evil, I can tell. I know evil." And with that she swung her sword.

Nyx

"Willow? Stop that, child." Nyx put her hand up and Buffy's sword stopped in mid-air as Nyx looked closer at the red haired girl. Nyx clenched her fist and the sword shattered under Nyx's magical powers. Buffy gasped and then tried to draw a stake. "Now a vampire I am not, but stakes hurt like a bitch to heal around. If you try and stake me, I will be *very* cross. You must be the Slayer then? Oz told me about you, and honestly? I thought this would be a fight I could be proud about. Last person I sparred with that I could say that about was a Billy Idol wannabe vampire in New York, about thirty years ago." Nyx mused. All jaws of all three basically hit the dirt. "What?"

Dawn

Buffy and Willow were completely speechless, so Dawn stepped in.

"Okay, pause, rewind, play. First of all, You know Oz? Second, how old are you, and finally, you sparred with Spike? And lived? Okay, I say we all need to sit down somewhere and talk, without trying to kill each other. Please?" numbly, Willow & Buffy nodded.

Nyx

"Oh, the sweetie speaks her mind!" Nyx grinned, flashing her fangs at the Slayer, who she was now certain she detested. "Here's good for me. Pull up a piece of grass." Nyx suited action to word, going to sit in the lotus position, pausing when she realised she was wearing her boots, and just lay down, head propped up on her hands. The other three sat, Buffy and Willow slowly, Dawn more eagerly. "Yeah, I know Oz. Sweety. Don't talk much."

"Same old Oz then," Willow smiled.

"For money, I dance. Not that I need to. Skip that, onwards. Band comes in, called 'Dingoes ate my baby'. Started flirting with one out the back after their gig, and then wow! Wolf boy. Growls and hisses resounding!" Nyx rolled over onto her back. Dawn giggled. Nyx leant her head backwards and stuck her tongue out at the girl. "I'm a cat, sunshine. Cats and dogs no mix. We got over that though. Told me about you lot, and I decided to rock up. More or less to pick a fight. Maybe pick up the Slayer. But now've I've met her? No chance."

Dawn

"Okay, so far, so fitting in my head," Dawn replied. "Except when you say cat, are you a werecat? Oh, and are you gay then? Willow's gay." Dawn said, being annoying on purpose.

"Dawn!" Willow admonished. "Yeas, though I don't know how it's any of your business. I'm mostly gay. Oz, and Xander in high school, were my only two exeptions."

Nyx

Nyx rolled back over and gave Willow a speculative look. "Oz is a good wolf. Good taste. I'm a whatever, wherever kinda gal. Smells good, lokos nice, I'll take a shot. Which is *why* the Slayer is such a turn off. Looks good, acts nasty, smells bad." Buffy stood up and Nyx looked at her lazily. "Blonde." She switched her attention back to Dawn, who was looking very interested. "I'm not a werecat, more of a werehuman. Bastet's daughter am I, the trickster of the shades. Wander the earth alone, my witch despairs, lost in shadow. Neither light or dark, I play the game. I exist in the corners of your mind, in the spaces between the worlds." Nyx sighed and looked sad for a moment. "Lonely place, out there. How old am I? Thousands. Been a fun ride though. you humans are such the creative little monkeys!" She jumped to her feet, smiling again. "Wanna fight, Slayer? I promise, no magic."

Buffy smiled grimly. "You're on."

"Buffy, no!" Willow cried out as the Slayer readied her stake.

"You wanna try and beat the vamp, dont'cha?" Nyx flexed her hands and her claws shot out, daggers of gleaming bone. "Must burn, Slayer, knowing a vampire beat you."

Dawn

"Wait," Dawn said, "No vampire has ever beaten Buffy. Buffy always wins in the end. Well, except for Glory, but that doesn't count, that was a lose-lose situation, and Buffy was being her usual control-freak self." Dawn smiled when her sister glared at her, Buffy just didn't get it.

"Buffy, she's not a demon, she's not a vampire. She's not evil, she just likes to fight, and she speaks her mind. She's like Anya, except she likes you less, and she still has all her powers." Willow tried to calm the girl down. Buffy had a lot to learn about self-control. Suddenly, Dawn giggled.

"You know what? I'd like to lock her and Faith in a padded room and see who walked out with the fewest bruises." Dawn laughed. "Buffy, you can't kill her, I like her. Let's bring her home and see if Spike remembers her." Suddenly, the connection popped into her head and she put her arm around the much shorter girl, and the other around her sister. "Please Buffy? SIt just followed me home, I swear!' Dawn couldn't keep her face straight no matter how hard she tried, and she burst into laughter. Cracking a smile, Buffy sighed.

"Fine. She can come home with us if she wants," deep i nside, Buffy was praying that she wouldn't want to, "but the minute she acts up, I am smacking her down!"

Nyx

Nyx breathed in the scent of the girl next to her, and sighed happily, going slightly cross eyed. "You smell fanbloodytastic, like sunshine, rain and magic. Catnip for the senses." Then she thought about what the girl had said before. "Anya? You mean Anyanka? What a blast from the past! Pretty girl, lovely vengeance, strong demon. Good sparring partner."

"Ok, this is getting slightly towards weird, even for the Hellmouth," Willow said with a laugh. "Do you fight with everyone?"

"Just about." Nyx agreed cheerfully, before she snuggled up closer to the girl beside her and batted her eyelashes. "So, I followed you home, huh? Do I get to sleep in your bed?" Buffy gasped, then hauled back and slapped Nyx across the face. "OW!" Nyx stumbled backwards, then started to growl ferally, baring her teeth and snarling deep in her throat. "Bitch! You are such an incredible bitch! None of your damn business what I say to her, so back off before I hurt you! Would you mind awfully if I put her in a box? Permantly this time round?" Nyx and Buffy faced off again, one with a stake and the other with teeth and claws as the other two looked on in horror as the situation detoriated.

"She's my little sister, you evil thing!" Buffy yelled angrily. With a quixotic change of mood, Nyx calmed down again. Buffy stayed angry.

"Ah. Then I won't hurt you." Nyx stretched and yawned widely. "You people interupted my meditation too. Noisy whining, Slayer. You might wanna work on that when you're fighting evil."

"Buffy, she said she wouldn't hurt you." Willow reached a hand out and forced Buffy's stake down.

"Long as she don't attack me again. Then I'll take a lot of pleasure in bloodying her nose and spanking her little blonde behind." Nyx pointed a finger at Buffy and shook it reprovingly. "Tsk, tsk, Slayer."

Dawn

"Okay, there will be no killing of anybody here tonight." Willow said firmly, "See my resolve face?" Noticing something, the helplessly naive Dawn leaned over to ask Willow a question.

"Um, Willow? Was she flirting with me?" She whispered to the older girl.

"Um, yeah."

"Oh, okay." She said in her normal voice. "Okay, Nyx, first of all, there's no more room in my bedroom, with all of the Potentials staying at our house. Second, let's get a move on. The 'Billy Idol wannabe' is at out house, as well as Anyanka." Nyx seemed willing to come over, but B uffy was still having a hissy fit. Deciding once and for all to stop tis before it went insane, Dawn picked up her cell phone, and picked Oz's cell num ber from the directory.

"Hello, Oz? It's Dawn Summers, do you remember me by any chance?"

"Dawn? Of course I remember you. Let me guess, it this about a certain catwoman named Nyx?"

"Yes!" Dawn replied, laughing, "How did you know?"

"The second she said she was in Sunnydale, I knew she'd get herself in trouble. Has she tried to kill Buffy yet?"

"Yes! So, would you PLEASE talk some sense into them both before I hafta start knocking heads together? Because I so will." Turning to face Buffy, she handed her the phone. "Talk to Oz." Nobody knew exactly ehat was said between the two, because she walked out of hearing range, but when she came back, she had a sort of smile on her face, and handed the phone to Nyx.

Nyx

"Nyx?" Oz's patient voice came down the line.

"Yes, wolf?"

"Leave Buffy alone."

"Oz, she's all I know evil, and she leaves out the bit where she knows evil in the biblical sense, because everyone, and I do mean evry demon on this side of LA is talking about how she was sleeping with this vamp. Two vamps actually. Angelus, who I wanna meet and kick his ass, and some guy named Spike." Silence on the other end, and a very embarrassed Buffy on this side. "Oz?"

"You said Spike?"

"Uh huh. More people I can fight. And Oz, you never said Buffy's sister was so friggeting cute."

"Dawn?"

"That's her name? She's a sweetie."

"Nyx, leave the Slayer alone."

"I can kick her arse, you know it. Fine. I already promised Dawnie that I would, but if she comes after ,e again, I'm sending her to the moon. Literally."

"Best they can hope for." Oz sighed. "Will you be on tomorrow night?"

"Yeah, I'll meetcha in the chat room. Bout 8?"

"Sounds good. I'll get Devon on too. Bye Nyx. Be good."

"Baby, I'm always good, but even better when I'm bad." Nyx purred as Oz laughed and then hung up. "Seeing who my mother is, I can be hardly anything else," Nyx said thoughtfully as she handed the phone back to Dawn. "Can I just get my stuff? Sleeping at your place has gotta be better then sleeping in a crypt. Hey, I like crypts don't get me wrong," she said defensively, "but I'm betting you have a shower. Warm hot water, and something to eat that I don't have to catch first. Speaking of which, I'm rather hungry. Do you mind waiting for a sec?" Nyx ducked into her crypt and rapidly disrobed then ran out the door, shifted and streaked away, black body flowing along the ground.

Dawn

The girls' eyes widened.

"She really is a cat!" Buffy exclaimed.

"You doubted her," Dawn asked, surprised.

"Well, I personally still think she's evil, so, yeah, I doubted her."

"Buffy she's not evil."

"Yeah, I know, Oz told me, but still, I don't trust her. Oz did warn me of a good way to keep her under control," Buffy said, laughing.

"How's that?" Willow asked.

"You'll see," Buffy replied. "I'm sure she'll act up at home. Does an yone else see a strong resemblence between her and Faith?"

"Buffy, I just said that."

"Oh. Nevermind." Watching the bautiful black cat pounce on and eat a large field mouse, Buffy's stomach churned.

"Okay, Nyx, when you're done disemboweling rodents, we're ready to go."

"Buffy, be nice," Dawn admonished. "But Nyx, do hurry up, this may be California, but it's also January, and I'm getting cold."

Nyx

Nyx shifted, blood running down her mouth and looked at them curiously. "Honey childe, I done come from Egypt, pharoah's land. This is cold for me too, but the cold is as fun as the hot." She noticed their bug eyed stares and sighed. "I shift naked. I don't like losing my clothes." Nyx stretched her back, hands above her head, back arched in the shape of the half moon, before running off agains. "Mouse!" She was still human however. She pounced and whispered to the mouse as she straightened up.

"Please don't tell me you're gonna eat that right now, being human shaped and all?" Willow asked, looking slightly green.

"And why ever not?"

"Because it's gross!" Buffy yelled disgustedly. Nyx sniggered and slowly lifted the mouse to her open mouth, before suddenly shifting and catching it in her mouth as she fell towards the ground. She shook it vigourously before gulping it down. She loped over to Dawn, and put her paws on Dawn's chest, staring at her with bright green eyes.

"Mrowr?" Nyx blinked slowly, and Dawn giggled as Nyx purred and licked her cheek with a raspy tongue. "Mew." Nyx dropped to her feet and padded over to her crypt. She looked back over her shoulder inquiringly, and then shrugged fluidly as no one followed her, disappearing into the dark shadows of the crypt.

Nyx shifted back into herself and gazed around at her crypt. Dark and dusty. That vampire had made a mess. She quickly bundled up her clothes and wheeled her bike out before getting dressed inside the crypt, she didn't want to get her clothes more dirty. If she had to wear the annoying things, then she was going to wear ones that were as clean as possible. Soon, she sauntered out, black duster swirling around her ankles and signifcantly taller due to her high heeled black boots. Dressed all in black, with leather playing a significant part in her clothing, she cocked an eyebrow at the three women waiting for her. "So, sweetie, wanna ride my bike? Gotta helmet, though I don't use it." Nyx patted the seat of her motorcycle fondly as she resettled her pack on its holder.

"She's not riding that." Nyx glared at Buffy through half closed eyes.

"Was I talking to you?"

"That's not the point, she's not riding on that bike." Buffy folded her arms and glared back.

"Well...I could leave it here and come get it in the morning." Nyx frowned thoughtfully. "Sleeping is of the good, and I don't wanna spin out and crash here in Sunnyhell." Nyx nodded firmly, before wheeling the bike back inside. She placed her backpack on her back and yawned widely again as she came out, eyes drooping. "Bastet, but I'm beat. What with the cleaning out of my crypt, and the magic..." Nyx abruptly shifted down into cat and wriggled out of her clothes. She was too tired to keep up her human shape, so she pushed her clothes together with her nose and mewed pleadingly at Dawn, before turning to the crypt where her motorbike was hidden. One, two, three! A flash of black light covered the crypt and her protective spell sprang into being. Nyx dropped to the ground, truly exhausted now. She felt soft hands picking her up and she purred, licking Dawn's hands as she was picked up.

Dawn

Dawn giggled as she picked Nyx up. She was under the suspicion that she had just found a new best friend. Slinging Nyx's pack over her shoulder she handed the extra clothes to Willow and kissed the kitty's forhead.

"Person or no, you are absolutely adorable!" Dawn squealed. She was unable to resist cats, always had been, and loved to huggle and cuddle and kiss them silly. Buffy was getting annoyed again.

"Dawn, stop kissing the evil cat."

"Buffy! How can you say that? Look how sweet and cute she is! can I keep her? Please?"

"Yeah Buffy, if Nyx is willing, I could use a new familiar, since Miss Kitty Fantastico had that horrible accident." Willow didn't like to think about it, and even just mentioning it made her tear up. Miss Kitty had been Tara's kitten, and though she had a new girlfriend, Tara would always hold a sacred place in her heart.

"We'll talk about it later. Now let's just get home." It was funny how Buffy always turned into a huge bitchy bossy-bobb when when she was cranky. Which seemed to be all the time lately.

(OOC: Can you tell I'm not so fond of Buffy? Especially not this season. What is UP with her? *growls*)

Keeping up a brisk pace, they made it to the house pretty quickly, and were just heading inside when a demon charged at Buffy. Willow & Dawn ran inside, leaving Buffy to do her job.

"Hey everybody, this is Nyx." Dawn introduced the cat to the people in the room. "She's a friend of Oz's."

"Oh! I kitty! Amanda sqeauled, jumping up to pet the cat.

"Waitasec, she? The Cat? Okay, confused," Xander said.

"Hey Nyx," Anya said, "Xander, she's a were-human, older than me, actually. We spend some time together during the Dark Ages. She is one feisty feline." Dawn laughed.

"I'll second that." Putting Nyx down, she covered the cat with her duster. "Why don't you turn back into a person now, Nyx, and I'll introduce you to everyone." waiting for Nyx to change, and quickly throw her clothes on, Dawn noticed that the girl didn't really care much for modesty.

"Okay, so, this is Amanda, she's a friend from school, and a Potential Slayer. That's Xander, Andrew, Kennedy, you know Anya, and you've already met Spike. And those are some of the other potentials, but I can't remember everyone's names. I do know that that's Vi and Rona."

Nyx

"Hey, sexy." Nyx winked at Spike. He looked embarrassed and coughed as she continued, "Up for another round? Where's Dru?" Spike's eyes darkened and she tilted her head. "And why are you here with a Slayer?" She sauntered over to him and gave him a long careful sniff. "Nup, still the vamp I remember, smelling like sex and cigarettes, death and sweet hot blood. But something's different."

"That would be the soul." Spike's voice was raspy, and her eyes bugged out before she started to laugh.

"Oh, please. The Slayer can't content herself with one souled vamp, she has to have two of them? Greedy girl." Nyx turned slowly, taking in the delightful shock she was causing. "Not much better myself, except mine were unsouled. Remember New York? The fight was fantastic, Dru was so pretty and the Slayer was so dead."

"I remember."

"Not that I have much personal againt the Slayers, mind you, it's the Council that pisses me off." Nyx turned on her heel and surveyed the room. "Anyanka, why are you here? What a lovely, lovely game this is!" Nyx clapped her hands, eyes sparkling with malicous amusement and smiling. "We have all these pretty girls, and two hot guys. Well, one's human and one's a vamp, but there's always something to say about the vamp recovery factor. They're so sweet and innocent, Anyanka, however do you manage? Been hearing things about you. D'Hoffreyn's pissed. My mother was quite angry with him."

"How is Bastet?"

"Purring and motherly. Preggers." Nyx bit the tip of her finger, eyes wide as she swirled her tongue around it. "Motherhood suits her. Seeing how long it was since she had me and my sibs, bout time she had another litter. She gets cranky. But there are so few males worthy of her attention...damn Christians. They stamp out the old religions. You know I heard that Hermes bought it?" Nyx flopped down on the floor curling up around her knees.

"No!" Anya put a hand to her mouth in shock.

"Uh huh. Mother was extremely pissed. She went around and got Sakhmet to bite their heads off. Blood! Pain and fire and devastation! S'lot of things down in the winds. I feel it down in my fur. Something big and bad and ugly's coming up." Nyx giggled suddenly and rolled over onto her back. "Fun! Well, not so much with the actual pain, but the chaos, Anyanka! The wildfire unleashed again. Been so long since I've played in a war. Chaos, lovely, lovely, wildness." Nyx jumped to her feet, eyes shining with excitment. "Ah, to run, to fight and feed, to laugh, to play! Whee!" Nyx whirled around, hair flying out in a circle as she hugged her arms to herself. "You do not see the beauty of the flames." She stopped and pointed at Spike. "But he does. Or rather did."

"Not anymore, pet."

"Don't call me that!" Nyx pouted at him. "You know full well I detest it."

Spike's mouth twitched in a wry grin. "You know that's why I do it."

"Playing with fire, William. I burn, remember?"

"Like I could ever forget."

"So, what's your interest here? If it's Dawnie, hands off. She's so sweet and little, you'd scare her half to death."

"Protective already?"

"And you didn't answer my question. Where's Dru? Miss her, I do. Sweet insane babblings. You know what she told me, right? That I would flee the fire in the rain. LA is a mess. Ran outta there, tail singed and smoking, ears flat against my skull."

"Dru is...gone."

"Not dust?"

"No. She left me. I came here. Stuff happened."

"Which is Spike's way of saying that he got his ass kicked," Anya chipped in perkily. Nyx's eyebrows shot up.

"Losing your touch, William? You fought me, a child of a god, to a standstill."

Dawn

"Hey! Standing right here!" Dawn reminded them. "Why must everyone talk about me as if I'm not there? Nyx has my permission to flirt with me all she wants, as long as it doesn't go past that. There's a couple of guys who I think might be interested. I'm meeting them at the alien tournament. Hey Nyx, you should come too! Buffy's already making me bring Spike as a bodyguard, but I bet you'd be a good one too."

Nyx

Nyx made puppy dog eyes at Dawn. "Aw, you don't mean it, really? Ah well, I can always get you to change your mind. I'm very persuasive. That way." Nyx giggled at the look in the Slayer's eyes. "And a bit of a back up here, aliens? Tournament? Bodygaurd? Few questions, can I kill anyone? Do I get to fight? And where can I sleep? Please say your bed, please say your bed. I can shift. Be a kitty. Mrowr." Nyx stepped back as the Slayer advanced. "Ooh, fight!" Nyx bounced slightly, looking eager. "Take the swing, take the swing! Then I can kick your arse, blondie."

Dawn

"Nyx, as long as you stay a kitty, you can sleep at the foot of my bed. And here goes for the tournament. There's this thing called the "Yes, I'm Really An Alien Society," or YIRAAS, and I was recently invited to be a member, since I have powers, and I'm not exactly human. They have these tournaments yearly, and this year it's in Oklahoma, and Buffy said I could go 'cause she wants me to get away from the Hellmouth for a while, but I have to take two bodyguards. Spike, and someone who's less vulnerable to sunshine & stuff. I hadn't decided on who the other would be, but you're lots of fun. And you can join YIRAAS, and compete in the fighting ad shifting and conjuring events. Oooh, it'll be so much fun to have somebody else who knows magic. And hopefully, nobody will try to kidnap me and destroy the world with my blood." Dawn sighed. "Being the Key can be so annoying at times. I personally think that we should ALL joing the YIRAAS and go to the tournament, but Buffy said that the POtentials need to stay here and train."

Nyx

"Magic! See, the witch smells of magic, but you, you're made from it. Chaos inside you." Nyx stepped a bit closer to Dawn and stared, eyes wide and her pupils fully dilated, making her eyes a deep forest green.

"Nyx, I think you need to take a few steps away from the bit, or the Slayer's gonna get mad." Spike stepped forward and put a hand on Nyx's arm. "Slayer, a few things about Nyx. She's a cat, and her scent of smell is even better then mine. Being who she is, chaos draws her in, because it smells like..."

"Smells fanbloodytastic! Haven't smelt anyone that strong since, since I was a kit, and curled up into my mother's side. Strong, and powerful, like a flame." Spike's hand tightened as she allowed some of her irritation to show as she flicked her ears back.

"Nyx, calm down." Spike spun her around and she let him, leaning back into him.

"So it's like that, is it, William?"

"No, Nyx. Bloody hell, but you have a one track mind."

"Best track though, vamp. Anyone here above puberty damn well knows it."

"Be quiet, Nyx." Spike turned back to the group and took his hand off Nyx's arm. "Dawn being who she is, she's like a magnet."

"Like catnip. Bypassing all the human bits my mum built in and going straight to the cat ones."

Dawn

Buffy was not too pleased with this new revelation, especially since she didn't really trust the catwoman, but at least this explained a few things. The bright green energy flowing in Dawn's veins made her smell beautiful to Nyx, like sex on a stick.

"Okay, whatever," Buffy said, "We'll work this all out in the morning, when we're not all googly-headed. Let's get some sleep." Everyone agreed, and headed off to bed. Dawn led Nyx up to her bedroom, where several of the Potentials were already sacked out on the floor. Dawn grabbed her jammies and changed in the bathroom quickly, brushed her teeth, and washed her face. When she got back to her bedroom, she saw the sleek black cat curled up at the foot of her bed, and she couldn't help but go "Awwwe!" She slipped under the covers and fell fast asleep.
