Chapter 8

Perhaps the first thing that happened (although no one is quite sure how) is that they guys got separated.

"Tay? Zac?" Isaac called. "Yoo hoo! Where are you?"

Then he saw a flickering light. There was a fire in the fireplace and sitting by it was an old man in a rocking chair.

"Come closer to me Isaac." Said the old man.

"Who are you?" Isaac asked.

"I'm you."

"What?"

The old man grinned menacingly at him then there was an explosion and he disappeared in a cloud of smoke. When Isaac next could see around him, he was in a graveyard. It was foggy and in front of him was a grave. Something compelled him to read what was written there.

"Clarke Isaac Hanson." He read allowed. "Beloved Son. Just beloved son? No beloved husband? Father?"

"It never happened Isaac." Said the old man from behind. "No one will ever love you."

"No. No that's not true!"

"Sure it is. Look, your proof is right before you."

"No it's not. No, you're lying. You're not me." Isaac cried desperately.

"You're gonna die a lonely old man." The old man taunted. "No one loves you."

Isaacs' heart was thumping rapidly.

"No." He said quietly. "That's not true. My parents love me. My siblings love me. You're lying. This is just a trick that deadly silence thing is trying to play on me to stop me from trying to defeat you."

The old man laughed. And laughed and laughed. Then he started morphing into a reflection of Isaac, as the scene went back to the room in the house. He pointed a finger at him.

"You can't defeat me. You'll never defeat me." He laughed evilly.

Isaac mustered up the power he had within him. With his mind, he threw one of the logs of the fire at the thing impersonating himself. Instantly, the thing went alight, and was laughing.

"What? You think a little fire is gonna hurt me?"

"Sure it will." Isaac replied evenly. "And if it doesn't, well, I have telekinesis, I'll just crush your body. That is a human body after all."

The thing screamed. He went up in a blaze of smoke and when there was nothing left but ashes, Isaac watched them morph into a scroll. He unrolled it and read aloud:

"It'll take a little more than that to defeat the essence. And to save your little friend. Remember Ezara? Come to the final battle zone Isaac. Come and face your doom."

Isaac shook his head.

"Gee, how melodramatic can you get?"
