Chapter 29

Taylor spotted Moira staring at the phone with an almost distressed look on her face.

"Hey, I was looking for you. What's up?"

Moira gulped.

"Tay?" she asked tentatively. "Who am I?"

"Excuse me?" Taylor asked confused.

"Who am I?"

"You're, you're Moira."

"Moira who?" she pressed. "What's my last name?"

"I don't know. You never told me."

"Right, and open that drawer on the left."

Taylor gave her a puzzled look, but opened the drawer.

"See that envelope? Pull it out and tell me what it says."

Confused, Taylor lifted out the envelope.

"Hey, this is the letter I sent you with the tickets and backstage passes to the concert. It's not even open and it says... 'return to sender - address does not exist' ?"

Their eyes met.

"But... this can't be right... you got them."

"I know." Moira was obviously upset. "There's something else too. I overheard your Mom talking to that shrink of yours awhile ago... I know this is going to sound really stupid... but she thinks I'm your invisible friend."

"Well, that's ridiculous. For a start you're not even invisible."

Moira was silent. Taylor was puzzled at this for a moment, then he realised what she was thinking.

"Oh man... they... no way! There's no way..."

"It has to be true Taylor." Moira whimpered. "They haven't been ignoring me. They just can't see me."

"No. No, no, no, I refuse to believe it." Taylor said. "You're not invisible! You're not!"

"But I am Tay... I am. I'm... I'm nothing but a figment of your imagination that you created in a desperate attempt to stop yourself from jumping off that hotel balcony that night." Moira bit her lip for a moment. "I see it all so clearly now."

"I can't believe you even said that!" Taylor exploded. "What, you're saying that all this time I've been talking to a figment of my imagination? That I've been talking to myself? Why don't you just come out and call me schizophrenic to my face?"

"Tay, you're not sch-"

"Just go away Moira! I hate you! I never want to see you again!"

Moira stared. Then turned and fled.

Still angry at the words that had been sent, Taylor stormed up to his room. On the way he nearly knocked over Diana.

"Why'd you have to tell her she was invisible?" He shouted at her. "Maybe she didn't exist to you, but she was real to me!"

He ran to his room and slammed the door, leaving Diana to stare after him in mixed confusion and astonishment.
