Chapter 9

"Now see these guys" Zac was saying, "rock, but have they had a number one? No."

Sometime during their trip, they had spilt up and Zac had managed to drag Jasmine to the music store. Right now, he was talking towards the camera and holding up the CD as if he were a salesman or something.

Jasmine kept trying to get away long enough to actually look at the CD's. Unfortunately, Zac just kept on moving.

"On the other hand," Zac continued. "These dudes have had like, a million top tens, and a thousand Grammys, but do they rock? Some people think so... I'm not one of them."

He put that CD back and picked up another one.

"This group is great. The totally rock the joint."

"I think this group sucks." Jasmine cut in.

Zac looked over at her. She was holding a Hanson CD. Zac pulled a face, and stuck out his tongue.

"Oh, you're just saying that because I'm being mean to you."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

Jasmine just smiled knowingly.

Meanwhile, Libby had dragged Isaac over to the bookshop, after buying ear muffs. As she scoured the romance section, Isaac walked as close as he could get to the science-fiction and fantasy section. He almost tripped over someone.

"Oh hi Tay." He said. "What are you doing down there?"

"Resting my feet. Deanna's already taken me through like, all the clothes shops already."

"I have not." Deanna cut in.

"Most of them then."

Isaac smiled, then looked over at Deanna.

"Whatcha looking for?"

"Oh, nothing in particular. I'm just trying to find someone new to read."

"Someone knew?"

"Yeah, well, I have all the books written by the authors I like here. So, I wanna find someone new."

"That's the sci-fi and fantasy section huh?"

"Yep."

"Have you read anything by Anne McCaffery?"

"Are you kidding? I love her stories. Especially the Crystal Singer books."

"I think I like the Dragon series better."

"Oh, yeah, well, they're pretty cool. Have you read Isobel Carmody?"

"No..."

"Oh, well, you have to read her books. Personally, I think she's a McCaffery fan too, but her books are great. Especially the Obernewtyn Chronicles."

"Cool. I'll be sure to read 'em sometime."

And so Isaac and Deanna kept yakking about sci-fi novels and the like. Much to Taylor's boredom, who had to sit there and listen to the whole thing.

Strangely though, Isaac later realised he had a conversation with Deanna about a topic he would never discuss with Karina. And for some reason, he felt a little guilty about it.
