"You're not mad are you?"
There was quiet for a moment.
"No. Just a little disappointed."
"Sorry."
"Hey, don't apologise! I don't want to be in a relationship with someone who's not interested in being in a relationship with me."
"Thanks for understanding."
"Who said anything about understanding? You're the first boyfriend I ever had - how sad is that? For someone of my age and social statue?"
There was laughter on the other side of the phone line.
"I'm sure you'll find someone."
"You might be, but I'm not. I'm gonna be an old maid. Just you wait and see."
"No you won't. You're gonna meet some dashingly handsome guy who will sweep you off your feet and you'll fall deeply in love with each other."
"And then I'll wake up."

"You broke up with Molly?" Peta asked.
"Yes, I broke up with Molly. How many times must I repeat myself?" Zac demanded.
Zac had made his way to Peta's house later that evening, on route to the airport.
"Sorry, I just... everyone was saying what a great couple you two made."
"Yeah, well, maybe."
"She take it well?"
"She took it very well. I haven't met anyone so easy going like that ever."
Peta smiled.
"Well, I'll pass on your message as soon as I see her." She said, changing the subject.
Zac nodded.
"Thanks." He said. "I really appreciate it."
"You're welcome." She replied, giving him a hug. "Now, you'd better go or you'll miss your plane."
"Thanks again!"
And on that, he left.
