Chapter 74

When Zac arrived at the hospital, the closest they let him get to Kelsey was the waiting room.

The good news was that she had since wakened from her coma.

Naturally, Zac was arguing with a doctor about letting him in. He was still doing this when an oddly familiar man walked in.

"Excuse me doctor." The man said. "Which room is Kelsey Addision in?"

"That one there. And who are you?"

"I'm her father."

"Sir." Zac jumped in. "I'm one of Kel's friends -"

"And you look the part too." Mr Addision replied. "Look here, I don't want you or any of your little pals anywhere near my daughter."

"Hey, I'll have you know that my name happens to be on her 'in emergencies call' list. I don't recall ever seeing your name there."

"You are just going to have to deal with the fact that things are going to change in Kelsey's life now. She's not going to be hanging around with her little motorcycle friends anymore -"

"She's twenty-four years old! You can't tell her what to do with her life."

"Especially after the car theft fiasco." He continued as if Zac hadn't said anything.

"Hey man, I was the one who paid her bail. My sister-in-law was the one who found the lawyer to get her out of that mess."

"Oh, I see. She should have done time for those crimes young man. Have you no respect for the justice system?"

Zac stared at him.

"Say what? You actually believe Kel was guilty of car theft? Kel doesn't even know how to drive a car! Her life revolves around bikes!"

"You really expect me to believe that?"

"Aren't parents supposed to stick by their kids? My parents stood by me. My parents stood by me and my brother Ike and Tay when we started our band. They gave up a huge lot so we could have our career. And now, we're giving up the band so that Ike and Tay's kids can have their band."

"Oh... you're Kel's rock star friend." Mr Addision realised. "But that doesn't change anything. You're probably dealing her drugs. Stay away."

"Stay away? Stay away from the only woman I ever truly loved after my wife died? Is that what you're telling me?"

"And how did your wife die?" Mr Addision asked snidely. "Drug overdose? Or did you kill her with your own bare hands?"

Zac glared at him, fury in his eyes.

"No. My wife died of a brain tumor. She was eighteen. We hadn't even been married a year." He replied in cold fury. "Our daughter was only a month old."

Mr Addision was silent for a moment.

"Stay away from Kelsey."
