Chapter 33

Zoe was back in Tulsa a couple of days later. And about three or four weeks after that, she, Mackie and Sarah were ready to set off back to LA to record their new album.

Right now the three were in the studio at Isaac and Babsie's house, picking up their instruments. Previously, they had asked them if they could use their studio to record the demos. Obviously, Isaac and Babsie didn't mind.

"Wow, it's gotten dark quickly huh?" Sarah commented looking out the window. "What is that howling anyway?"

"Probably just the wind." Zoe dismissed.

"Hey does anyone remember where I put… oh never mind." Mackie said.

Zoe gave him a smile.

"Umm, guys?" Sarah asked. "Guys, umm, is, uhh, is that what I think it is?"

Mackie looked to where she was pointing. His eyes widened.

"Damn!"

"Wha- oh my gosh!" Zoe cried. "Tornado!"

"Do Ike and Babsie have a basement or something? What about Mom and Dad and Yassie?"

"They're smart people Sarah." Mackie replied. "I'm sure they'll be fine. C'mon. I know a fast way into the basement."

He ushered his two sisters into the hallway and to the spiral staircase. Once there, he reached up and pushed a button on the wall. Almost immediately there was a cranking noise coming from the bottom of the stairs.

"C'mon, get on the slippery dip." Mackie told them. "It'll let you off in the basement instead on the main floor."

"Oh, I hate this thing." Sarah complained, climbing on. "It always makes me sick."

"Just hurry up." Zoe told her.

Sarah slid down, squealing part of the way. Zoe followed just enough seconds after her so not to squash her at the bottom. Mackie quickly jumped on after them.

About the second that they reached the basement, the lights flickered out. Sarah yelped.

"Oh, quit being such a big baby." Zoe said. "There's bound to be a torch or something down here."

"Yeah. Ike and Babsie thought of everything." Mackie agreed.

A few moments later, Mackie found a torch. He shone it around the room.

"See? I told you they thought of everything." He said smugly. "Food, a radio, batteries, torches, candles, matches, hey look! There's even a piano in here."

Zoe and Sarah giggled.

"I wonder how they got that in here?" Zoe asked.

"Through the door." Mackie said, gesturing to the door.

"Oh yeah. Duh." Then she frowned. "Where does that door go to exactly?"

"The laundry is on the other side."

"Oh. Oh! I always thought that door in the laundry was a cupboard or something."

"Well, there ya go. It was 'or something'."

"How long do you suppose we'll be down here?" Sarah asked nervously.

Mackie and Zoe looked at each other. But neither had an answer.
