Chapter 74

15 September 2023

Isaac and Babsie arrived at the maternity ward, along with some of their kids.

"What's happening?" Babsie asked Adam.

Adam was already there with Sam, Mike and Verity, as Electra had gone into labour while the menfolk had been working on their new album.

"Well, the twins are born," he replied, "but they're refusing to let us in until they've named them."

"What are they?" asked Isaac.

"Babies," Babsie replied instantly.

There was quiet for a moment.

"Corrupted on the genetic level, you mean," Isaac joked. "Oh boy, imagine having a father like Xavier and a grandmother like Babsie."

"The world is doomed," Mike commented.

"A boy and a girl," Verity spoke up. "They had a boy and a girl."

Mike and Verity had returned from their honeymoon only three weeks before.

"Okay, I've got it, I've got it," Xavier said.

"Yeah?" asked Electra.

"You know how you said if one of the twins was a boy, I could name him Clarke if I could think of a name to go with it for his twin?"

"Uhh, yeah," Electra sounded hesitant.

"Well, I've got the best name."

"And it is?"

"What? You expect me to just blurt it out like that? I think not! Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a name to go with Clarke? There is no feminine form for a start. And there's only one name that rhymes: 'Larke'."

"Larke?" Electra choked. "Umm, ookay..."

"Relax. As amusing as it would be for the daughter of a musician to be given a name that means 'songbird', that's not the name I had in mind. Now, there aren't any anagrams, so then I turned to names that would have the same or similar meanings. But I am telling you, there is not way I am naming my daughter 'Scholastica'."

"I should hope not!" she shuddered.

"And then it hit me. The perfect name. The only other match I had left."

"You had one left? You've exhausted all the ones I usually do," she considered this, "well, except starting with the same letter."

"Hmm, well, this has two matches then. The name I pick, is 'Cornelia'."

"How - oh! Our first names!" Electra laughed. "Oh dear. Oh, I like it."

"And their middle names? What have you picked?"

I knew that my first child's name was going to start with a X or a Z. And even before I even heard of 4A, I wanted to name my son Xavier. But then you wanted to name him Clarke."

"You're not into the idea of Clarke Xavier Hanson the second?"

"No."

"Drat," he teased.

"But there was an alternative. And then all I had to do was to pick one to go with it. And I have that, plus nicknames to go with them."

"Oh yeah?"

A minute or so later they invited their family in and introduced them to Clarke Zavier and Cornelia Zirconia Hanson, to be called Zed and Zirc for short.
