Chapter 70

Taylor's eyes floated to a photo of Babsie. "I wonder when she's going to wake up."

"Soon, I hope," then Isaac shook his head. "I've, I've been thinking lately..."

"Yeah?"

"We've all been saying if Babsie was going to die, she would have done it sooner and kept everyone out of their misery, but lately, I'm not so sure."

"Why?"

"Well, see, Babsie knows me so well. And I think that she would have known, that if she had died then, I would not have been able to handle it. I'm serious Taylor. She was in that hospital for months and in those last couple of days I finally had her back. If she had died after all that time waiting, I just... would not have handled it. I may well have ended up in a mental hospital myself."

"You serious?"

Isaac nodded.

"Very. But see she didn't, and I was able to focus all my time and energy in making sure she was with me, and that everything was being done to keep her alive. And in taking care of Babsie, I had to take care of the kids as well, y'know... but if she had died then... no way. So I figure, maybe she realised that. Maybe it wouldn't be at all uncharacteristic of her to die later, if she does at all, because she's waiting for a time where she knows I'll be able to handle it better."

Taylor gave a low whistle.

"You think so huh?"

"It's a thought," Isaac replied, with a tinge of sadness in his eyes.

"Hey Dad," Xavier said, coming in. "Where's Katie941?"

"Katie941?" Taylor repeated.

"One of his guitars," Isaac explained. "I think she's in the music room."

"Oh good. Thanks," Xavier replied and he left.

"He's naming his guitars?"

Isaac gave a rueful smile.

"Ahh, he found out I used to name my guitars after my crushes, so he's started doing that."

"Who's name is Katie941?"

"Some girl he met online."

"Oh. Aww."

Isaac laughed.

"So, speaking of online people, do you know what's come of Jesse giving Morgan his e-mail address?"

"As far as I know, they're getting along like they've known each other forever. Despite the fact that she completely freaked out when they met."

"Oh I remember that!" Isaac laughed. "That was a crack up. Never thought I'd see the day when I'd see one of my own flesh and blood freak out."

"Yeah, neither do I! It's kinda weird being on the other side of the fence."

"Definitely."
