Chapter 54

Morgan felt rather uncomfortable at dinner that night. She fiddled with her food a bit and shifted in her seat. She couldn't help but feel Duane's grinning eyes on her.

"So did you have fun with the triplets today, Duane?" Taylor asked.

Morgan stifled a groaned. Of course Duane was looking rather pleased with himself and of course Taylor would notice and ask about it.

"Yep!"

"What did you do?"

"Oh, just messed around. Went roller blading. Saw Morgan kiss another girl on the lips. Played video games."

Taylor nearly choked on his food. Morgan suddenly lost her appetite altogether, stood up and left the table.

"Hey!" Duane objected. "You didn't ask to be excused."

Morgan didn't answer. She just stormed into her room and slammed the door.

"Morgan?" Rita asked, softly opening the door.

"What?"

"What's this about kissing girls?"

"Nothing!"

Rita sat down on her bed next to her. Morgan eyed her warily.

"So, umm, was it a girl? Or did he just look like one? I know when your Dad's band first went big a lot of people said they looked like girls."

"It was a girl."

"So, umm... where you really just hanging out today? Or was it a date?"

"It was a date."

"I see... so, umm, tell me about her."

"Why do you care?"

"Well, honey, I'd like to know who my daughter is dating. Admittedly I would prefer it if she were dating boys, but, well, if she wants to date girls I won't stop her," Rita replied, reaching out for Morgan's hand.

"She's okay."

"Just okay?"

"She's just a friend."

"Well, what do you like about her?"

"I don't know," Morgan shrugged. "She's a friend."

"Well, it's good to date friends, I suppose. Gives you something to develop a relationship on."

"She's not my girlfriend! It was just the once."

"Oh, I see. Think you'll go out again?"

"I don't know."

"Do you want to?"

"I don't know!"

"Well, why'd you go out with her in the first place?"

"Jill and Boris said Frankie liked me. They set up the date."

"Frankie? That's her name huh?"

"Yeah."
