Chapter 43

Isaac was happy. He had finally gotten a cook that could not only cook well and in large proportions, but also liked and got along with the kids, who also liked her. He liked her and Natalie... Natalie got along with Tracy, but he had a feeling she would never like Tracy. But you can’t please everyone – at least Tracy fit most of the bill.

After tucking some of the younger kids into bed, Isaac popped into the kitchen to compliment her on yet another good meal. It had been something he had never heard of before, and he loved it.

“Thanks,” Tracy beamed, “but it’s my job.”

“Just because it’s your job doesn’t mean you should get any less appreciation,”

Tracy smiled.

“Want a hand washing up?”

“Uhh... yeah sure,”

Isaac picked up a tea towel and started drying the things she washed up.

“Thank goodness for the dishwasher,” Tracy said. “If it weren’t for that, I’d have to wash up a lot more. Speaking of which, we need more dishwashing powder.”

“Well, just put it on the list and I’ll get it when I go grocery shopping.”

Tracy giggled.

“What?” Isaac asked.

“Sorry, it’s just that, a guy going grocery shopping.”

“It’s not that big a deal. Besides, someone’s got to do it.”

“True.”

When Isaac had dried the last of them, Tracy wiped down the benches. Isaac smiled to himself. It wasn’t often that the kitchen was actually clean.

Casually, Tracy put the cloth away and took off the washing up gloves. Then, completely out of the blue, she lunged towards him, pushing him down onto the bench, and pressing her lips against his. Isaac was shocked for a moment, then put his hands on her shoulders and pushed her off him.

“What the heck do you think you’re doing?” he demanded, still rather stunned.

“Oh, c’mon Ike,” she replied seductively, hanging her arms around his neck. “You’re an attractive man, I’m an attractive woman. And let’s face it, you’re little wife is practically dead already. You probably haven’t had a good night’s, shall we say, passion, in months. Admit you want me.”

“Number one,” Isaac replied coldly, “my wife is not dead. Number two, I will not commit adultery with anyone, under any circumstances. Number three, since you obviously have no scruples, at least not regarding sex, I cannot have you in this house where you can influence my children -”

“Your children? Or you?” Tracy asked snidely.

“My children are going to grow up with principals, Miss Clarins. Not for all the good food in the world will I let you stay here where you can negatively affect their upbringing. Only because it’s late will I allow you to stay in this house another night, but I want you out of this house by morning.”

“You’re firing me?”

“You’d better believe it. If you’re still on the property at nine o’clock tomorrow morning, I’ll have to arrested for trespassing.”

Without another word, he left the kitchen.

“You’ll pay for this Isaac. You’ll pay!” Tracy yelled after him.
