Chapter 86

"Mackie? Can you go get Oliver?" Diana asked. "He hasn't come down yet."

"Ok."

It was their first morning back in LA. Indecision were going to start work on their new album today. Mackie walked up stairs and knocked on Oliver's door.

"Oliver?" he called when there was no answer.

Still getting no reply, Mackie opened the door. He walked over to where Oliver was still sleeping.

"Yo, Oliver." He said, shaking him.

Then Mackie spotted something. A bottle of pills on the table. There was no label on it and Mackie reached over to inspect it more closely. Oliver grabbed him arm.

"What are you doing in here?" he demanded angrily.

"Breakfast man. We're gonna eat, and then record today. What's in the bottle?"

"None of your business." Oliver answered, pushing him away.

The two boys glared at each other.

"Are you doing drugs man?" Mackie asked.

"What I do with my life is none of your business man."

"It is my business. You're my friend. Or at least, I thought you were."

There was silence.

"You shouldn't be doing them -"

"I knew you'd say that! I knew it!"

"Well it's true!"

"I don't care! It's my life, just stay out of it."

"Can't do that. We're in a band together."

More silence.

"Are you gonna tell anyone?" Oliver asked finally.

Mackie paused, then sighed.

"No." he answered at last. "Call me an idiot, but I won't tell anyone."

"Good."

"But Oliver, if someone asks me directly if you're doing them, I won't lie. Well, unless we're on tv or something."

Oliver looked away.

"We have to get down to breakfast." Mackie said. "Get dressed."

He started walking out, then paused and looked back at Oliver.

"And stay away from my sisters."

"Can't stay away from Zoe. We're in a band remember?" Oliver sneered.

Mackie glared at him.

"If I find out she's doing drugs too, I'm blaming you. And I'll tell."

"Is that a threat Hanson?"

"No, Lennard, it's a promise."

Mackie left the room.
