Babsie paused for a moment as she changed Lockies' nappy.
"I'm going to go as the scariest thing I know."
"What's that?"
"Myself."
Isaac laughed.
"C'mon Babs, don't take out all the fun of it. You gotta dress up."
"Oh really?"
"Yeah."
"I don't see why I have to get involved in American traditions." Babsie teased. "For starters I'm not American, and Halloween isn't technically a national holiday in Australia."
"You poor things…"
"Oh course, that doesn't stop some people from celebrating it… I don't know. You Americans think you own the world."
"Yet you married one."
Babsie gave him a grin.
"There you are Lockie. All nice and clean."
Lockie responded by reaching out and touching Babsie's nose. Isaac smiled.
"C'mon Babs, you dressed up every other year."
"That because Halloween is like, the worlds biggest fancy dress party. And you know I love fancy dress."
Isaac laughed.
"So, what are you going as Ike?"
"I don't know. I was thinking X-men, just to bug Tay and Zac, but we've done that before."
"Yeah, getting kinda boring if we do it again."
There was a pause.
"What about Spiderman and Spiderwoman or Spidergirl?"
"Do I look like I could get away with that?" Babsie asked, gesturing to her stomach.
"Umm, sorry."
There was another silence.
"I've an idea. Lets just make up some weird costumes - and I mean really weird as in they don't really look like anything at all - and say we're going as… umm… whatevers."
"Whatevers?" Isaac repeated. "Yeah, ok, we're gonna go as Whatevers."
They laughed.
