Chapter 61

They were in LA. Again.

"Hey Ike." Taylor said, wandering into his room.

"Huh?" Isaac said, obviously startled. "Oh, hi Tay."

Taylor gave him a strange look.

"Ok Ike, what are you hiding?"

"Hiding?" he repeated. "What makes you think I'm hiding anything?"

"I'm your brother. I can tell these things."

Isaac hesitated, studying his face for a moment.

"Well, umm, when we went to Australia, you might recall I mentioned talking to Rita's Mom - err, Mum."

"Yeah…"

"Well… at one point, Babsie went off back to talk to her friends who work there right? And well… Mrs Masters gave me something."

"So?"

Isaac paused.

"See that box there? That's what she gave me."

"What's in it?"

Again Isaac paused.

"Some stuff that used to belong to Babsie's parents."

"Oh."

Taylor took a moment to think about this, remembering how much Babsie loathed her father.

"She, uhh, she told me that she was sure Babsie would want to look through it right? Apparently over the years she had tried to pass it on to her, but she wouldn't have anything to do with it."

"I wonder why?"

"Well, you know what she's like."

"Have you looked through it?"

"No. No, I really… I don't think it's my place y'know?"

Taylor nodded. There was another silence.

"There's something else too."

"Oh?"

"Apparently Harry had visited the Masters recently. Apparently they get along really well, despite that he left Babsie and her mother."

"So? They're more forgiving than Babsie. Big deal."

Isaac frowned and scratched his head.

"I got the impression… well, I think that there's more to it than that. Call it a hunch."

"And a weird one at that."

A wry smile crossed Isaac's face.

"So, where's Babsie now?"

"She's downstairs with Zac, debating who won the bet."

"Ook…"
