Chapter 14

March 2026

“Wow,” Taylor said looking at their collection of paper, files and CDs scattered about the place. “We’ve been writing a lot of music in our spare time, huh?”

Isaac looked over it and nodded.

“I’d agree with that. Do we actually want to sort though all this music, or shall we just start from scratch.”

“We should do both,” Zac decided. “I mean what’s the point of writing music if no one ever hears it?”

“Good point.”

“And even if it doesn’t end up on the album we can still play it during the shows,” Taylor decided.

“True that.”

“By the way, thanks for letting my kids tour with us.”

“Tay, Tay, Tay,” Zac said. “Family is still the most important thing.”

“Agreed,” Isaac added.

“Besides, I’m fascinated by them forming a band,” Zac nodded, grinning.

Taylor chuckled.

“They’re pretty good. Can’t escape those musical genes.”

“Say, what’s this one?” Isaac asked, picking up a piece off Zac’s beside table.

“Oh! It’s not finished yet,” Zac said nervously. “I’ll just keep that here until it’s done.”

“Okay,” Isaac agreed handing it back with a slight frown on his face. “Is it about Hope?”

Taylor looked up and noted the expression on Zac’s face.

“Hey, Zac, you should really go make amends. I mean doesn’t she come under ‘important things in life’.”

“Hope is not a ‘thing’.”

“You know what I mean. You’re being all gung ho about getting the band back together and stuff and you’re not trying to patch things with Hope?”

“Taylor, just leave it, okay?’

“Okay, okay,” Taylor shook his head. “Okay, so how shall we begin?”

The three looked at the mass of music before them helplessly.

“Okay...” Isaac said slowly, picking up a CD at random. “I’m going to play this one and then we can listen to the next one and stuff. Notepads? Pens?”

“Check.”

“Rightio then.”

“And thank the hospital for a private room.”

“May we not disturb the other patients?” Taylor chuckled.
