Zac jumped and whirled around. He saw a short figure, wrapped in a black cloak. The voice had been croaky, but with a slight, feminine tinge to it.
"Who? How? What?" he garbled out.
"I'm Gretel." She replied. "You haven't eaten?"
"Uhh, not hungry. What am I doing here?"
Gretel paused.
"You're my guest."
"Excuse me?"
"I know what you are Zac. I know you have powers, like me."
"Powers?" he repeated. "Look, can you tell me what the heck is going on?"
"You can't fool me Zac. You're - we both are - mutants. We're one and the same, or will be?"
Zac stared at her, trying to figure out exactly what she meant from that. Gretel took off the robe and Zac's eyes widened incredulously:
Gretel had a very obvious green tint to her skin. Her beady eyes were a murky yellow colour and her fingers were unusually long. Zac later noted that her skin had a rubbery feel and she had an abnormally long tongue.
She hopped lightly over to Zac and ran one of her fingers down the side of her face.
"Make love to me." She whispered.
"What? No! No, no, no." Zac shook his head vehemently and back away from her.
"Why?" she demanded with the tone of someone who does not like to be crossed. "Is it because I look like this? Is that it? You don't think I'm good enough for you huh?"
"No, it's just, I, uhh... I have a girlfriend already and I... I don't wanna have sex with anyone at this point in my life."
"A likely story. You're just repulsed by me."
"Hey, you don't wanna believe me. Fine. But I know I'm telling the truth. Besides," he added as an after thought, "I don't even know you."
Gretel glared fiercely at him, and the next moment, she was gone. It was then that Zac realised that his heart had been beating faster and that he was standing up. He sat back down slowly.
"Oh you sure told her!" came a small, approving voice.
Zac leapt to his feet again.
"Who said that?" he yelped.
"Me."
"Who's me?"
"Zac." The voice replied, then burst into a round of giggles. "But you should know who you are better than me!"
