Chapter 11

Zac blew up.

"Ok so Mary Anne isn't a freaking supermodel. I don't want a supermodel. They're all anorexic and bulimic anyway. Is it so wrong for me to not be so shallow as to actually go out with someone because of how they look? So excuuuuuse me if I like Mary Anne for who she is."

"Gee, sorry."

"Y'know, Ike and Tay give me rot about this all the time - sometimes I even think they're joking. But c'mon! I'd like to date whoever I want without having my decision criticised. Did it ever occur to you that I don't give a stuff what people look like?"

"Calm down. I was curious, not criticising. I mean, c'mon Zac, I'm a shape shifter. I've changed my appearance so many times I've forgotten what I originally looked like. I've experimented with all sorts of different looking people. Ugly, beautiful, we are all capable to telling one from the other - and guess which of the two always gets treated better Zac?"

"I don't need to guess. I know. Damn it, Mary Anne doesn't really even come under 'ugly' and look at all the rubbish she gets!"

"Oh, it doesn't bother her. Like I said before, she's smart. And she has that kind of personality." Z gave Zac a smile. "To actually say you don't care about what people look like, that's a really hard thing to do. I guess, it's just human nature to, well, judge by appearances. But the smart aren't always beautiful and the stupid aren't always ugly. Goodness knows, I of all people should know that appearances can be deceiving."

"Yeah... I guess so."

There was quiet for a little while and then Zac looked at her curiously.

"Do you really not remember what you looked like?"

"Not a clue. I was female and that's about it."

"You can't just decide to turn back to your old self?"

"I bet Ike takes that part of his power for granted huh? Nope, can't revert back."

"How old are you?"

Z waged a finger at him.

"You know, it's supposedly rude to ask a lady how old she is."

Zac looked around. Z gave him an odd glance.

"What are you doing?" she asked.

"I'm trying to find a lady."

"Very funny."

"You might be a woman right now, but you're no lady." Then Zac grinned. "You don't know how old you are either do you?"

"Maybe I do, maybe I don't." Z answered. "Right now the odds are in your favour though."

Z slowed down to stop at a red light. Zac thought it was pretty dumb as there was only one other car, and it was parked on the side of the road.
