Then he saw the tornado. He saw it rip up the house next door.
It was nearly upon them.
Then something strange happened. The tornado seemed to falter. Isaac heard a grunt next to him and saw Rachel frowning in concentration.
"Rach?" he asked.
Rachel ignored him, just continued to focus on the tornado.
The tornado appeared to be staying in the same spot. Then it jumped as if to continue moving towards them. Then stopped again.
Isaac looked at it, then at Rachel, and then back at the tornado. By now everyone was curious.
Rachel moaned. The enormity of whatever it was that she was doing seemed to be sapping at her strength.
The tornado jumped again, but at the same time, it appeared to be loosing it's own strength. The winds weren't nearly as powerful as they were.
There was less debris too, but that might have been because it wasn't close enough to any more debris or anything else it could turn into debris.
Rachel moaned again, and Taylor wrapped his arms around her, wishing he could project strength onto other people like he could emotions.
Then the tornado vanished and Rachel collapsed in Taylor's arms. He nuzzled her neck and whispered into her ear:
"How'd you know you could do that?"
"I… just… knew."
**********
There was extensive damage done all over the neighbourhood. Houses destroyed, trees uprooted, fallen power lines. There were people coming out onto the street and others trying to get the injured out of their houses.
Rescue crews were beginning to arrive, along with fire engines and ambulances.
It was around this time that the Hansons realised the curse of their powers. Especially Jess who's power of Healing could have helped enormously just then.
But they knew they could never use them in public, no matter how much good their powers could do.
Fortunately, the Hanson's home was not quite as damaged as the others, although much debris had hit it, having been so close to the tornado.
Rachel had a nice long sleep. Stopping the tornado with her new found power had exhausted her.
