Chapter 17

However, there was no more time to contemplate this as Walker thundered towards them.

"Into the basement!" he said. "Quick! Tornado warning. Headed this way."

**********

"You people need a bigger basement." Rachel commented.

It was pretty quiet. Tension was probably the main reason.

"Can your force fields help us Ike?" Jess asked.

Isaac thought about this for a moment.

"Maybe… I don't know if they're strong enough yet to withstand a tornado though."

More silence.

"Can't any of us do anything?" Avie asked.

"If we could, don't you think we would?" Taylor answered.

There was a small window in the basement, and Walker glanced out of it.

"It's gonna come close." He commented nervously, wandering back over to Diana.

There was more silence for a good few minutes. Suddenly, something smashed into that only window, glass flew everywhere but mainly into Avie's face.

She screamed in agony. There were a few huge pieces sticking out and blood was everywhere. Jess rushed to her and Isaac immediately stuck a force field up where the window had been.

"Oh no, Avie!" Diana cried.

Jess started trying to heal her, but scrunched up her face in annoyance.

"Damn it! I can't heal her unless we can get all the glass out. Why didn't I get Telekinesis?"

"Maybe I can help?" Isaac asked.

"There are too many small pieces." Jess replied in obvious distress.

It was about then that Avie passed out from the pain and Jess looked like she was going to cry.

"I can help." Taylor said suddenly. "Jess, think about where all the pieces of glass are, I can then transfer the knowledge to Ike and he can get them out."

Jess nodded and concentrated. Because Jess was thinking about it, the information was at the outer edge of her mind and Taylor was able to swiftly send it to Isaac. Naturally, immediately upon reception, Isaac whipped out all the pieces of glass from Avie's face.

"C'mon Jess, you can heal her now." Taylor said.

"I'm trying, I'm trying." She sobbed.

"You have to calm down. You can't heal her if you're… hysterical…" Taylor trailed off.

Now using his Empathy, Taylor searched among everyone there for whoever was the calmest among them. Strange as it may seem, the calmest was Avie, because she was unconscious, so Taylor projected this calmness onto Jess, who was then able to concentrate on healing her sister.

Avie was still unconscious when Jess was done, but that was ok. There would be no scarring.

Jess turned to Taylor and gave him a hug.

"Thank you Tay."
