Chapter 9

There was a way up to the roof of their next concert hall. And that was where Taylor found Rachel, gazing over the side.

"Hey Rach." He said, slipping his arm around her waist.

"Hey." She mumbled.

"Rach, what is it?" Taylor asked. "You've been more miserable than ever these last couple of days and it's driving me crazy."

Silence.

"Taylor?"

"Yes Rach?"

"Why do I love you?"

That stopped him.

"Well, ahh, err, how am I supposed to answer that?"

Rachel looked up at him.

"Why do I love you Taylor? Because we both know you have Attraction and I… well, what if you never had that Tay? Would I, would I still feel this way about you?"

"I, I, ahh, I." He stammered.

"Exactly." She cut in.

"Rach, I, I love you. With all my heart and soul."

"But that's not enough Tay. I, I can't go through life doubting whether my feelings are true or, or, or artificial."

"Artificial? Rach, what we have can never be artificial. Never."

"But I -"

Taylor cut her off by kissing her. She responded for a moment, then roughly pushed him away.

"No, Tay, no. I can't, I just… no." she said, taking a few steps back.

The next thing Taylor knew, he was getting very wet. Slowly he looked up, then back at Rachel.

"I, ahh, I hope you're not planning on striking me with lighting. I'm not Zac." He said nervously.

"I, I'm sorry Tay, I just… I want to go home. I need some time away from you. To, to be sure of my feelings."

Taylor stared, completely drenched.

"Are, are, are you breaking up with me?" he asked slowly.

"Yes, I, I'm sorry Taylor. I'm sorry."

On that she ran off, tears streaming down her face.

"Rach! Rach!" he called after her, his own tears mixing with the rain. "Rachel I love you! I love you Rach!"

There was no response, and Taylor, despite it all, couldn't help but say to himself:

"She could have at least gotten rid of the cloud."
