Chapter 5

"Look, Tay, all I want you to do, is send a probe into her head and -"

"How about I send one into your head and see if you saw what you think you saw?"

Zac gave him an indignant look.

"Do you think I'm making it up?"

"Zac, if you were lying to me, I'd know." Taylor replied. "I know that you honestly believe what you think you saw."

"I don't think I saw it! I know I saw it!"

"No."

They were having lunch and Zac had managed to pull Tay away from the general conversation.

"Hey, I've a better idea." Isaac piped up, joining them. "Why don't you bring up the topic again Zac? Ask Jo a direct question and Tay will know if she's lying or not."

"So what if she is?" Taylor asked. "What does it matter anyway?"

"Don't you get it Tay?" Zac asked. "She might be another anomaly - a triggered anomaly."

"A triggered anomaly?" Taylor repeated.

"Yeah! Do you understand how, how incredible that would be? I mean, if she's is, how many other triggered anomalies might there be out there?"

Isaac and Taylor stared at him. Taylor sighed.

"Fine. Try it." Taylor agreed.

It was decided that Taylor would be standing a few feet behind Jo when Zac confronted her. If Taylor got any reason to believe she was lying, he would give Zac a nod.

A few moments later…

"Are you sure your hand wasn't on the barbecue Jo?"

Jo gave Zac a weird look.

"Why would it be on the barbecue? I'd get burned." She returned.

"Would you?"

"What -"

It was about then that Taylor nodded. Zac lifted his hand and created a small Sphere of Light. Isaac (who had seen Taylor's nod) made a point of making sure no one looked in their direction as Jo stared in amazement.

"How can you do that?"

"How can you touch a barbecue and not get burned?"

Silence.
