Chapter 7

Nate stared, but not because Carla was finally having her first kiss, but because… well… to this day no one is exactly sure why it happened. The heat of the moment? Or maybe just because Isaac had been in the process of shape shifting his bones back to normal.

But whatever the reason, the fact remains that Nate gaped, jaw dropped as low as it could go while Isaac and Carla turned into shape shifter liquid before his eyes.

It started with their lips, their nose, face, head and hair. Their necks and chests and waists were reverting into a weird translucent liquid. Their legs, ankles, toes… eventually both their bodies were a puddle on the ground.

Meanwhile, in the next room where everyone else was acting like normal human beings, Taylor suddenly stood up from the table, his eyes wide and alert. He put his hands to his head for a moment.

"Oh my gosh!" he freaked.

"Tay?" Diana asked.

"Oh my gosh!" then came a pause and a sudden change of voice. "Ike, that's disgusting. Eww."

"Taylor?" Walker asked.

Doug was staring at Taylor curiously. They all were.

"This way." Taylor said suddenly.

Naturally, everyone wondering what the heck was going on, they followed him out to the balcony where Nate was still staring at the puddle that was Isaac and Carla in complete shock.

"Isaac!" Diana cried the same time Doug yelped "Carla."

They stared at each other. Taylor frowned at the puddle of shape shifter goop.

"They should be up in a moment." He said finally.

In fact, just as he was saying this, Isaac and Carla started reforming into their human selves. As the last of their features formed, the two stared at each other.

There was silence.

"Perhaps someone would like to fill the rest of us in." Zac suggested.

No one answered for a moment.

"Well?" Zac demanded.

Isaac brushed some of Carla's jet-black hair behind her ear.

"We all have powers." Taylor said. "Isaac and Carla are both shape shifters."

Silence. Everyone (even Nate, who had recovered) stared at each other.

"Well." Doug said, shattering the silence. "Maybe we should go back inside, and, how shall I say, reintroduce ourselves?"

Although no words were spoken, everyone agreed to this and they headed inside to talk.
