Chapter 18

The following day, Rachel had another spasm.

"Argh, this is so frustrating." She complained to Taylor.

He smiled and put an arm around her.

"Look, it should help now that you know what the power is." He said.

"Yeah, I know, but -"

"Just concentrate on controlling it."

Rachel gave him a look.

"You of all people should know that's harder than it sounds."

"C'mon Rach. You can stop the spasms. Just focus ok? Concentrate on turning yourself into rubber for me. For you."

She sighed.

"C'mon Rach." He encouraged. "You know you'll have to eventually."

She nodded and concentrated.

"No, I can't do it." She complained a few moments later.

"Yes, you can." Taylor insisted. "Try again."

Rachel gave him a look of frustration and then tried again.

This time she felt like her body had turned to jelly. For a moment she panicked.

"Relax." Taylor said, taking her hands. "Hey wow, you're doing really well."

A smile grew on her face and a moment later she was solid again.

"What happened?" he asked.

"I couldn't hold it any longer."

"Oh, well, at least now you should be able to do something about the spasms."

Rachel nodded happily.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome."

Taylor leaned forward to kiss her, and she turned her head. He pulled back.

"I, I'm sorry." He said. "I, it's just it's driving me crazy not being with you again."

"Taylor, I… go out. Go out and date other people Tay. Don't wait for me."

"But I want to."

"Tay, I'm still not sure of my feelings for you. Please, I need more time. I, I'm planning on dating other people and I think so should you."

Taylor looked into her eyes sadly.

"If that's what you want."

On that he turned and left, not wanting her to see the tears forming in his eyes.
