Zac nodded slowly.
"What's going on? Why was I remembering things?"
"Because you are an anomaly."
"A what?"
"An anomaly. An obstruction. Something different."
"Oh. What has that got to do with it?"
Dustin sighed.
"I see this is going to take some explaining. There is a gene that appears in every race we've encountered. It is rare and gives certain powers. It can take three intensities. Level three is where the person can live their whole life completely unaffected. Like your parents."
"My parents?" Zac repeated.
"Yes. They have the gene, although they will never be aware of it, let alone be able to use it. Level two is a little more complex. The person uses it unconsciously. It is possible for them to become aware of its existence, but sometimes the power acts out of their control. Other times, the person can control it, and thus be promoted to Level one. Taylor is a Level two."
"Taylor?"
"Yes. What, you think it's just a coincidence that he attracts girls?"
Zac burst out laughing.
"Your other brothers and sisters are also anomalies. I believe Isaac is the strongest. However, we know so little we cannot usually identify individual abilities. A Level one anomaly is a person who is aware of their powers and can learn to control them. You were once a Level two. Now, you are a Level one, at least we hope you are."
"A Level one? Me? Have powers?" Zac paused. "What type of powers?"
"Well, the most obvious one is Restoration. That's why the time line has been reverting back. We need you to master this power so that the time line can proceed as it should - not as Amarita made it."
"What - what if I can't?"
"You must. It is as simple as that." Dustin was quiet for a moment. "We think we may have a way of stimulating this power."
He gestured to a round pad on the floor.
"Stand there please. It won't hurt.... at least, I don't think it will."
Zac's eyes widened.
"You don't know?"
"We've never used it before." Dustin replied with a shrug.
