Chapter 11

“Yeah, I’ll be fine Mom.” Rachel was saying into the phone. “Yeah, yeah, I know. Ok... yeah... yeah ok I will Mom! Ok, ok... bye.”

She hung up and gave Diana a rueful smile.

“You can’t blame her about being worried about her daughter.” Diana said. “What with three bruised ribs and a broken arm...”

“Yeah, I know. I don’t blame her at all.”

“Do you know if they’re coming up?”

“Mom says they’re going to try. But you know how flights are.”

Diana nodded.

“Well, I hope you don’t mind, but I’m going to check up on my little Zoe.”

“Yeah, sure, go on.” Rachel replied, smiling.

As Diana left, Jess came in.

“Hey Jess, I’ve been meaning to ask you...”

“Yeah?”

“Do you have even one little mark from the accident.”

Jess looked a little embarrassed.

“Well, I did... but it was so dark no one saw them and by the time I was in a light where people could see them...”

Rachel laughed.

“Oh, I’m sorry Jess. I’m not blaming you for healing yourself -”

“But that’s the thing Rach! It’s like that particular side of me I haven’t been able to control. I always heal myself automatically.”

“Kinda like Wolverine? From the X-men movie.”

“Yeah, I guess. But I don’t think I heal quite as quickly as he does.”

Rachel nodded.

“Well, I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Ok, so you’re going to heal faster than any normal person for the rest of your life. It’s not like they’re going to a blood test and find alien cells like when Max was in that car accident.”

“Max?”

“Yeah, y’know, Roswell. Don’t tell me you’ve never watched Roswell. It’s the best show.”

Jess smiled.

“I think I may have seen a couple of episodes.”

“I can see I’m going to have to introduce you to Roswell fan-dom.” Rachel commented.

Jess giggled.
