Just as they were finishing up, Zac noticed someone hanging around the wings.
"Z?" he asked, walking over. "What are you doing here?"
"Heard you had some unexpected visitors last night?"
"Yeah? From where?"
"Let's just say, a little bird told me."
"Figuratively, or literally?" Isaac asked.
Z gave him a knowing smile.
"So, any casualties?"
"Everyone's ok. Mom, Avie and Zoe are a little shaken up though."
"What about the pack?"
"We hurt them," Taylor affirmed. "Or rather, Zac hurt them. And Avie did a little damage with her lasers - burnt flesh, not good smell. That's the main reason why she's freaked out, poor girl."
"Fatalities?"
"We didn't kill any. And we weren't going to," Zac told her calmly. "Assassins or not, I'm not killing anyone - especially not in front of my younger siblings."
"I would berate you for that," Z answered, sounding unusually gentle. "You wouldn't catch me killing in front of children either. I don't suppose you know where they were headed?"
They shook their heads.
"Bloodlust after his daughter I suppose?"
They nodded.
"I thought as much."
"Look, Z, I'd love to stay and chat, but I want lunch," Taylor said.
"I'm with you, want to join us Z?" Isaac inquired.
"No, I have to go."
Isaac shrugged.
"Coming Zac?"
"I'll be there in a second."
Isaac and Taylor gave Zac silly grins with teasing twinkles in their eyes before walking off. Zac rolled his eyes and turned to Z.
"So, why are you following us? And I want a straight answer this time. No beating around the bush."
