Chapter 4

Z gave him a long look. She seemed to be thinking about something.

"I am only telling you this, because I think I can trust you with it. I also require that you don't tell anyone. All you need is to be over heard by the wrong person and it can really screw things up."

"What?"

"I'm keeping an eye on Isaac."

"Ike? Why?"

"Have you forgotten the Goblin so soon?"

"I'm not about to forget that incident any time soon. But what's this got to do with you keeping an eye on Ike? Who, I might add, is capable of taking care of himself."

"By this point, the Goblin would have well and truly worked out that it was Isaac she wanted all along to father her child. She will not give up on him so lightly - if she ever does. And who knows what tactic she'll take. But I tell you this much, she will most likely act when he's alone and vulnerable. Some may call that a cowardly approach, but it works. I know Isaac can take care of himself - he's more than capable - but Doran did take him out, if you'll remember."

Zac sighed and nodded.

"Does Ike know?"

"Yes. He spoke to me the day you triggered Dan," Z smiled, although more to herself than Zac. "He was more concerned about keeping the rest of you safe than himself."

"That sounds like him."

"Look, Zac, can you help me out? I'm not going to be able to keep an eye out for Isaac all the time - I have plenty of other things to do - and while I have plenty of other operatives looking after things, I think it might be good if you could keep an eye out yourself. And not just for Isaac, I don't know what method the Goblin might use, but I don't want to leave any windows open."

"Yeah, I can do that," then he laughed sadly, "like I couldn't after hearing that."

"Thanks," Z said, pulling a piece of paper from her pocket. "Have a pen?"

Zac pointed to the table. Z picked it up, wrote something down, and handed the paper to Zac.

"That's my mobile number. Use it only in an emergency," she said forcefully.

"No problemo dude."

Z rolled her eyes. She left after than and Zac joined his brothers. Taylor noticed Zac tuck the paper into his pocket.

"Ooh, get her number huh? You stud-muffin," Taylor teased.

"Tay, I'm a little worried about you," Zac commented. "In fact, I'm worried about anyone who uses the words 'stud' and 'muffin' in the same sentence, let alone about me. Is there something you're not telling us?"

Taylor just whacked him over the head.
