Noticing this weakness, Bloodlust went for Taylor.
"I'm gonna get you!" he growled menacingly, his hand around Taylor's throat.
This sudden attack caught Taylor off guard, forcing the telepathic filter he had been able to do to come down. He gasped for breath as his fingers curled around a knife handle. He thrust the knife towards Bloodlust, who only laughed when the knife passed through him.
"So, you can pass through stuff too," Taylor gasped out.
In case you're wondering where the knife came from (for surely Taylor does not sleep with a knife under his pillow) Mackie had teleported the one that had been thrown at Isaac to Taylor.
Bloodlust's grip tightened. Taylor couldn't get enough strength to create a probe. Just as he was beginning to think it was over for him the pressure was gone. Bloodlust was got. Taylor put his hand to his own throat, coughed and spluttered for a moment, and breathed in deeply.
When he had finally sat up and peered out his bunk, he noticed that all of the werewolves were gone. Well, not gone completely. They kept trying to get in doors and broken windows, but the wouldn't get far before they would suddenly disappear. Taylor frowned in confusion.
"Mackie's teleporting them," Zac said, noticing Taylor's expression. "Are you ok?"
Taylor nodded slowly. Jess stepped tentatively out of her bunk and walked over to Isaac.
"Jessica!" Diana wailed, not wanting her to get hurt.
Jess put her hand on Isaac and breathed a sigh of relief. The knife had done no damage. Although they might never find out exactly what had happened, Isaac had a force field come up automatically, but slower than it might normally because he had force fields concentrated elsewhere. It was fast enough to stop any real injury, but not fast enough to stop the force of the throw to cause him to bang his head against the wall and knock himself out. Jess brought him back to consciousness.
"We have to get going," Diana fretted.
"Yes, I know, and the best was to do that is to first get Ike's force fields up," Jess replied.
"He can keep the werewolves out that way - not that you aren't doing a good job Mackie," Zac added.
Mackie was all smiles, but anyone could see - even in the dark - that his strength was beginning to weaken from all the teleporting. Zac was amazed that he had lasted this long. He was only little, and the werewolves were so big!
Isaac groaned.
"Ike? Ike? Are you ok?"
"Huh? What happened?"
"We've been attacked by werewolves - Angela's dad's pack. We need you to get your force fields up to keep the werewolves out."
"Oh," Isaac groaned again.
He blinked and a moment later the werewolves were unable to get in. They shouted curses and vile threats. Jess nervously headed over to the driver and healed him.
"He's lost a lot of blood. I suppose we'd have to tell him what happened..." Jess trailed off.
Zac started to object and Taylor put his hand up to silence him.
"If I get a good night's sleep tonight I can block his memory in the morning," he said.
"He might not remember much anyway," Jess spoke up. "But forget about that. We need to get out of here."
"Right. Taylor, you get sleep," Zac said. "Ike, keep up those force fields. I'm gonna restore some stuff. Does anyone know how to drive a bus? Or will he be able to do it?"
"He can do it. Just give him a minute to come to."
Zac nodded and started restoring the broken windows and such back to how they should be. It was about then that Isaac had an idea. He used his force fields to push the werewolves together, as if in a box, and moved them well away from the bus. He also noticed that a tree had fallen onto the road. Undoubtedly cut and push down by the werewolves themselves. He used his telekinesis to move it out of the way just as the driver woke up.
It took them a moment to get the confused man to start driving again, and in the morning, true to his word, Taylor was able to block his memory of the incident. He did note that he hadn't really remembered much, probably due to the loss of blood as Jess had commented.
