Someone was on their balcony!
It took Zac a moment to realise it was Angela. He opened up the doors and joined her, shivering at the sudden cold.
"What are you doing here?" he yawned.
"I... I don't know what to do Zac. In the last few days I have turned invisible, grown wings, found this whole mutant society and discovered my father is a murderer. Most of the friends I've made are MIA, and so intend on detaining in any way necessary - probably kill - my dad, and my dad wants to kill them," then Angela burst into tears. "What did I ever do to deserve this!"
Despite his huge desire to go back to bed, Zac wrapped his arms around Angela and let her cry into his shoulder.
"Angie, you didn't do a thing -"
"Yes I did. I must have."
"These things were in the works before you were born. You couldn't have changed them. What about kids in third world countries who have to hunt rats and drink dirty water and stuff to live? They're malnourished and sick all the time. What did they do to deserve that? Nothing. It was just how they were born. Same with you."
Angela sniffed and Zac yawned.
"Sorry I got you up."
"That makes two of us."
Angela chewed her lip.
"Well, I -" she began.
"What are you planning on doing?"
"I don't know. Go to school, I suppose, other than that, I'm not sure. Other than Trinity I'm not sure I want to hang around any more MIA, any more than I really want to be with my dad right now."
"Back up a bit, school?"
"Yeah. There's this school which is solely for mutants. They said they have at least one in each state. It's just like ordinary school except that we're mutants. And I can board there too. And they don't just teach the usual school stuff either. We can get degrees and stuff that ordinary people can get too!"
"Sounds like you're excited."
"Well, it's not so much the school part as it is that I had a friend who went to my old school who moved interstate and well, yesterday I found out that she moved here and she's going to this school," Angela sounded positively delighted.
"Hey, that's great! See? You're making friends already."
Angela smiled, and Zac smiled back. Their eyes were locked for a moment, then Angela leaned over and kissed him gently.
