"Hmm." She said, pressing it down for a few more seconds.
It was around then that the air started smelling a little gassy and Zoe happened to toddle in.
"Mommy?"
That wouldn't have been so bad, if it wasn't for the fact that Zoe was dancing flames on her hand.
One word:
WHOOSH!
All the gas, upon coming in contact with Zoe's flame, ignited. It only lasted a couple of seconds, but it was enough to seriously scare Diana. She was standing up and the gas didn't come near her face so she was unaffected.
But Zoe's face was in the middle of the gas cloud…
"Zoe? Baby are you ok?"
"Yep." Zoe said, with a touch of curiosity.
There was nothing. Not a single burn. Not even a scorched eyebrow. Zip, zero, nada. Diana knelt down and inspected her carefully.
"You sure?"
"Yeah. Look what I can do."
Zoe lifted her hand up to Diana so she could see the delicate little flames dancing on her palm and through her fingers. Diana couldn't help but smile.
"Very pretty Zoe."
Zoe beamed.
Watching the flames, it was then Diana realised that if, in reality, there had been any chance of her daughter being hurt by the briefly ignited gas, it had all be neutralised by her Fire affinity. That one thing prevented her from being hurt by fire and the same thing that allowed her to create her fiery dancers.
"Uhh Zoe, next time you come in the kitchen, don't bring any flames with you ok?"
"Ohh." She complained.
"Honey, it's for… it's for safety reasons ok? So no one gets hurt."
"Ok." Zoe replied grudgingly.
"Good. Why don't you go play with the candles we gave you?"
"Ok!"
Zoe was all smiles as she bounded off. Diana smiled and then turned back to the stove.
"Well, that's one way to light the stove anyway." She said.
