"Civilly?" Isaac asked.
"Yes, civilly." She laughed. "Just a sec, I'm going to pass you onto him ok?"
"Ok."
Isaac had managed to give his girlfriend a call around about an hour ago. Which is how long that had been talking.
"Hello? Ike?"
"Hi Nate."
"You doing ok?"
"Sure. Just a broken leg and a sprained wrist."
"A sprained wrist? You're going to have trouble playing guitar aren't you?"
"Yeah, well, that's why the plan is to postpone the tour for a few weeks while we all get back into shape. Besides, Taylor's still in a coma."
"Oh, I see."
There was quiet for a few moments.
"Did you want to -" Isaac started saying the same time Nate began saying "There's something I -"
They laughed for a moment.
"Umm, look, there's... I would like to apologise for the way I treated you when you and Carla started dating."
"Hey, that's ok. I have sisters too."
"No, it's not as simple as that Ike." Nate replied, his voice getting a little lower. "It's... it's the powers ok? I mean, she was what? Eight when she got them? And she's very trusting, as you may have noticed. I mean, I guess, I just didn't want her dating someone and then end up telling him about her powers and frankly she is old enough to make her own decisions, and that's what scares me."
Isaac let out a breath slowly.
"So, that's what it's been about. You've been worried she'd tell the wrong person."
"Yeah... I mean, she'd probably won't, but y'know... I guess, Carla's been kind of sheltered most of her life. I guess mainly because Dad didn't want us telling anyone."
Isaac nodded and then realised that Nate couldn't see him.
"Ok. Umm, thanks for telling me. At least now I know it wasn't anything personal. Gee I mean, there was this girl back in Tulsa I would have asked out once but her father had something against any musician that played anything harder than classical. I was lucky if I could walk down their street without him going off his brain at me."
"Whoa... just because you're a muso?"
"Yeah. I guess he had just been taking that 'sex, drug and rock and roll' cliche too seriously."
Nate laughed.
