Chapter 18

"Well, that be right, the day we finally are able to come up to visit you, is that day they release you." Rachel's mother Anna laughed.

Rachel smiled.

"Would you rather she came home with you or us?" Diana asked. "We'll be coming back as soon as Ike and Avie are released."

"What about Tay?" Rachel asked.

"Hopefully Taylor will be awake by then." She replied. "If not, well, it's possible for us to get a bed and have him stay at home, so we'll probably do that."

Even as she saw saying this, Diana was saddened, remembering the state of her son. Before anyone could say anything to console her, Rachel's brother Dan came slinking in.

"Yo." He said.

"Hey Dan." Rachel greeted cheerfully.

"Yeah, hi." Dan replied. "Mom? Where's the food?"

"Dan, this is the first time you've gotten you see your sister in weeks, and all you have to say is 'where's the food?' ?"

He shrugged and then looked at Rachel.

"Hi Rach, how are you? Having fun? That's good." He said, then he turned his attention back to Anna. "Food."

"Oh for goodness sake." Anna replied, fishing in her purse. "Here, go get yourself something."

"Thanks." Dan replied smoothly, taking the five dollar note from her fingers.

Anna shook her head as he left the room.

"I don't know what's gotten into him lately." She commented.

"Don't worry about it Mom." Rachel said. "He's just being Dan."

"It's probably just a phase Anna." Diana added.

Rachel smiled at the word 'phase'. Trust a parent to say something like that!

"You're probably right." Anna sighed. "I just hope he gets through it soon. His attitude is very tiresome."

"I'm sure everything will work out just fine."

Anna smiled.

"I sure hope so."

There was silence for a moment.

"Hmm, so, how's the hospital food been?" Anna asked.

Rachel grinned.

"I've tasted much worse."
