Chapter 18

“If we can figure out how to hide your wings, you could come to the movie with us,” Zac said. “I mean, you could still come if you can’t, you’ll just have to turn invisible or something.”

“Why don’t you try turning just your wings invisible?” Jo suggested.

“Ok,” Angela paused a moment. “Did it work?”

“Nope.”

“Drat, I tried the switch flicking thing again.”

“Well, maybe you just need more practice,” Taylor said. “Or maybe your mutation is such that you can’t turn your wings invisible without turning the rest of you invisible too.”

“Oh well, I could do the bag thing again. Oh by the way, I’ve been meaning to ask – it slipped my mind when Z, or whoever it was, asked me about it before – do people with wings... I mean, I’ve found I don’t need to cut slits in my shirts or anything because my wings pass through them.”

“Pass through them?” Taylor asked.

“Move through solids?” Isaac inquired, standing up. “Nate has that...”

He looked at Angela’s back. Sure enough, her wings had gone through her shirt without the need for slits.

“Oh, you’ve got it all right. Guess we know what your third power is.”

“What’s the bag thing?” Zac questioned.

“Oh, well, you might remember at the meet and greet I had that bag on my back? Well, that’s where I was hiding my wings, because, you know, they’d pass through my shirt and the back of the bag. Of course, I’d need a bigger bag now... and if they get any bigger that might not work any more.”

“They probably won’t grow again today,” Jess assured her.

Angela nodded her agreement.

Later they met up with Mason, Jim and Drew as planned. After introducing Angela to them and vice versa, they picked out the movie and Walker left to get the tickets.

“Why don’t you put down your bag?” Jim asked Angela.

“Don’t want to,” she replied tentatively.

“Want me to hold it for you?”

“I’m fine.”

“Sure?”

“Yes.”

“This should be a great movie. I’ve been looking forward to seeing it,” Zac said, changing the subject.

“Yeah,” Mason agreed.

Only one other reference was ever made about Angela’s bag and that was rather hard to brush off until Jo started teasing Jim about developing a crush on Angela only minutes after they met. That shut him up.
