Like the last entry, this entry is being written three skits later, heh, except that the three skits in question were all performed on the same night. Our church had the "Esther Awards" last week it was. We had exactly 5 meetings to prepare. And for the record, I hated the rehearsals so much, lol. You try to persuade about 5, 10-13 year old girls to try and listen to you and see how much fun you have, lol. Okay, I know some people can do it, unfortunately I can't. My dad reckons I need to get a whistle. A shrill peircing one, lol. But that's neither here or there. There's a saying, though, "bad rehearsal good performance". All I can say is that I had totally latched onto that after our last one. Seriously, driving me insane: talking during rehearsals (which is extremely rude and I had explained them this numerous times), and interupting to suggest their own directions (It was 5 of them, but that's half the class, lol), and they were better behaved this last week than the week before! I'm sorry, I keep distracting myself: The Esther Awards went well. I did have to understudy for one girl who, for some reason, had been forbidden to go to drama/church anymore, and there were a couple who didn't quite speak up loud enough (mikes or no mikes), but otherwise, no problemos dude. |

1 November 2004
Well, since my last entry, we've done three more skits. Two were improvisations done by our three girls for the two youth services we've had since then. I've been quite pleased with them - they did 90% of the work by themselves - just a bit of direction/feedback from me, although I wasn't able to spend as much time with them on the second one as I would have liked. Still, the two skits have worked to show me where their abilities are. One of the girls, in particular, I believe I can confidently throw a few leads, when they come up in the future. The third skit was done by my mum, and my boyfriend's dad called "It's Malachi" (from the same skit book as "Just Listen"). With a guest appearence by my boyfriend, lol, who had a grand total of two lines in the lengthy skit, heh. Our next project (and I may well refuse any further requests until these are done) is three skits for our Church Christmas event for the year: The Esther Awards (think Arias, Grammys, Academy, Golden Globe, etc, hehe). I am looking forward to this. |

29 August 2004
Well, this is the first entry of the Holywood journal. Techincally, my Church started this last year, and it's under the handling of someone else, who (and I don't mean any of this nastily, mind you) has slim to none acting experience, lol. Knowing that I've done drama from year, he asked me to help. But this year, he had some school commitments, so he hasn't been able to come. Hence me being the unofficial leader, lol. Today we performed a skit called "Just Listen" from one of the skit books I have. In a nutshell, it's about listening to Jesus. I felt seriously great about this skit. I kind of feel like last year was a bit of a practice - our teething period, you could say. Getting the feel of our own abilities, how to go about it, and what kind of skits we should be doing. There are some really great skits in these books I have that I would love to do. Sadly there are a few which aren't very direct in their point, if you will, and I've come to the conslusion that the more direct skits are more appropriate right now. Oh well, maybe one day. Sadly, one of our performers was sick and couldn't make it, so I had to play understudy. Not that I mind, mind you. Actually, I didn't actually bother to learn any of the lines before today, so perhaps this was God's way of warning me: If you're going to play understudy in the future, maybe you should make certain you've made some effort beforehand to commit the current script to memory - you know, in case the next time the char has more than 5 lines! Lol. So about five minutes before the performance, we had a prayer. I should have been the one to say it, but I wasn't. And the worst of it is that I did think of doing it, I just didn't have the guts to actually say it. Esh, but this is a "I am such a wuss" gripe for another time, lol. But as I was saying, prayer. Always a good thing (even if I am so weird as to have problems with praying in public when I can do skits and pray on my own all the time!). And then: the big moment. Going onstage. And lets bear in mind that there's about half a metre between the stage and the first row, and we only have about half a metre of stage to work with. It would be a whole metre if there wasn't the speakers and mics and stuff for the band in the way, lol. The performance went great. There were a couple of stuffups, but fortunately, only the cast would have noticed them. I know I did one - nearly spoke out of turn. And our Jesus (played by my boyfriend, hehe), did mess up one of his lines, but he recovered well - he said the last part first, because he couldn't remember the first part (which he said after he said the last half, lol). Very nice save. I'm proud of him. (And not just 'cause he's my boyfriend, lol). I'm looking forward to the next performance :D |
