Chapter 16

"You coming Zac?" asked Pete.

"Yeah, sure," Zac replied. "I just wanna finish writing this e-mail."

"It's his online girlfriend," Taylor teased.

"Aww, shut up."

"I think it's cute," Cherry smiled.

I must go now, my sweet. My comrades are eager to attend a tournament between a spider and a goblin, and I would also like to watch this spectacle. If we do not leave now, I am afraid we shall be less than punctual.

Zac heard snickering as realising his friends were reading what he had written.

"Hey!" he objected.

"I must go now, my sweet," Pete read dramatically. "My comrades are eager to attend a tournament between a spider and a goblin."

"I always knew you didn't need acting classes," Zac muttered.

"Why can't you just say, 'I have to go now because my friends and I want to watch Spider-man'?" Isaac asked.

"Take all the fun out of it."

Write back soon, my fair maiden,
Sincerely,
Sir Bright

He hit the 'send' button and stood up before he could get any more comments.

"So, we going or not?" he asked.

"We're going, oh Knight of the Round Table," Kate teased.

"I'm never gonna live this down am I?"

There was a chorus of "nope".

After the movie, they hung around the food court for, of course, food. Taylor volunteered to mind the table while everyone else went to get something. Zac was the first one back, so he then minded the table while Taylor got his lunch.

"Hey Zac," Cherry smiled, joining Zac with her own lunch.

"Hey."

"Umm, Zac?"

"Yeah?"

"This girl you write to, what's her name?" Cherry then noticed the look on his face. "I'm not going to tease you."

"Aurora."

"Pretty. Actually, I have an online boyfriend too. I met him on an Arthurian RPG list."

"Really?" Zac asked. "That's where I met Aurora. I had no idea you were interested in Arthurian stuff."

"I didn't know you were either."

Zac smiled.

"So, what's his name?"

"Sir Bright."

They stared at each other.

"I'm Sir Bright," Zac said. "You know that… you saw me write it."

"Well, I'm Aurora. The fair maiden of the Golden Tower," Cherry replied with a small smile. "The friend you told me about, the one you lost on the battlefield, that was Luke wasn't it?"

Zac stared.

"Yeah… yeah it was," he replied.

"Do you realise what this means, my dear Sir Bright, Knight of the Round Table and Master of the Red Forest?"

"We ceased to court each other in order to court each other," Zac smiled.

"This world is full of irony, my love."

"I suppose then, know we know whom the other is, we should tell our comrades that we are back together then?"

"They will be very much surprised that we courted each other and knew it not."

"But not nearly as surprised as I, my fair maiden. Ahh, I can hear the jesting now."

"So can I."

"So, are we planning on speaking to each other like this all the time?"

"I will admit, I do like it. And I will like it even more so, if I learn our comrades do not."

Zac laughed.

"I completely agree with you."

They smiled at each other then Zac leaned across the table and they kissed softly.
