"He's been in there for ages," he said to Zac.
Zac shrugged.
"That's just how Ike deals with this sort of stuff."
Taylor raised an eyebrow.
"Locking himself in the garage for two days?"
"Well, considering what happened, I think he'll be there for another day at least."
"He didn't act this way when Luke and David died."
"Yeah, but he did when Grandma died. And when Nancy disappeared," Zac smiled softly, "and when he found out you were suicidal."
Taylor winced.
"Okay, point taken. But I have to tell you, I love writing songs, but I don't like the fact that Isaac gets especially creative when he's depressed. That's just disturbing."
"And yet they're not depressing songs."
"No, but you can't tell me you're not concerned either."
"No, I can't."
Taylor sighed and remembered what had happened two days earlier. It had been Isaac's wedding day - finally! They were waiting at the Church. Belinda was late and Isaac was getting edgy.
"What's the time?"
"Two minutes past the last time I gave you. Relax man," Taylor had assured him, "she'll be here."
"It's not like her to be late. And this is... a whole hour! You don't think she -"
"Belinda didn't get cold feet."
"You don't know that! People get left at the altar all the time. What else could it be?"
Zac had been about to give some smart-alec reply when Walker gestured over to them. He looked anxious.
"What is it Dad? Has Belinda called?" Isaac asked.
"No, not Belinda. Avery. From the hospital."
"The hospital?" the three boys repeated.
"What happened? Are they okay?" Isaac questioned.
"Avery couldn't tell me much but I... Belinda, her father, Danni and the driver... they're dead."
"What?" Isaac whispered as Taylor and Zac looked at each other.
"I'm sorry Isaac. I'm really sorry."
Not too much later they found out what had happened. Their car had run out of petrol on the way to the Church and they stopped to get some more. While they had been at the station, a fire broke out. The petrol pumps and the car (amongst other things) went up in flames. Avery (as flower girl) and the other bridesmaids were in the second car, close enough to see everything and still get hit by debris. The site was being inspected to see how the fire could have started.
Isaac, needlessly to say, was devastated, and as soon and they got back from picking up Jessica and Avery from the hospital he scavenged some food and drink from the kitchen and locked himself in the garage, which would bring everything up to date.
