Chapter 2

Daria was about to answer, when suddenly a great puff of green smoke appeared before them. The Munchkins scattered as woman, dressed in black with a pointy hat walked from the smoke.

"Who killed my sister?" she demanded.

"I... I did." Daria admitted. "But it was an accident!"

"Be gone from this place!" Gretchen commanded.

"So, you killed my sister." The witch said, turning to Daria. "How dare you?"

"You have no power here." Gretchen said to the witch. "Now leave, before someone drops a house on you."

The witch looked up nervously, then back at Gretchen.

"But first..." she started toward the house.

It was about this time that Daria noticed that her ankles felt a little warmer.

"No! Where are they?" the witch cried. "Where are the Ruby Ugh Boots?"

She whirled around, and pointed a crooked finger at Daria.

"You! Give them to me! They're mine."

Daria stared at her feet. Sure enough, Ruby Ugh Boots adorned them.

"Don't give them to her." Gretchen intervened. "They must be very powerful if she wants them so badly."

The witch glared at Gretchen.

"Fine, if you won't give them too me, I'll take them myself!"

She reached for the Ruby Ugh Boots, only to be zapped by the very power of them. She yelped, then glowered at Daria.

"Just you wait my pretty. I'll get those Ruby Ugh Boots, if it's the last thing I do!"

On that, the witch disappeared in another cloud of smoke.

"Oh dear." Daria said. "Who was that?"

"That was the Wicked Witch of the West." Gretchen informed her. "And she's a powerful enemy."

"Oh dear. What am I to do?"

"Why, go to the Wizard of Oz of course. He'll be able to help you."

"How do I find him?"

"Just follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City."

And on those words, Gretchen turned back into her sphere and disappeared.

"Follow the yellow brick road?" Daria repeated.

And that's when she noticed it. A road made of yellow bricks.

"Follow the yellow brick road!" she said happily, and started walking down it.

"Please," said one of the Munchkins, running up to her. "Take this basket of food. It's a long trip."

"Oh, thank you!" Daria replied. "Thank you so much. And good bye everyone! Good bye!"
