They were at the studio later that day, having a break to eat lunch.
"You and Psy aren't dating?" Taylor then looked up and continued with pleading eyes. "Please say they're not dating."
"No, that's not it." Zac answered, irritated. "It's about the band."
"What about it Zac?" Isaac asked.
"Well, umm, I, after this tour, what happens? I mean don't you think they're gonna be living in our shadow?"
Isaac and Taylor sent him confused looks.
"Ok, umm, I'll try this again. Umm, when, umm, when we, Hanson got signed, Dad gave up his job at the oil company so that we could y'know, release an album and tour and, well, keep going with our musical career. And then, when we were ready to go on without our parents on tour, they helped establish our record company, and then they started on with Indecision."
Zac paused, trying to get his thoughts together.
"Guys, they, our Mom and Dad, they gave up their, well, they gave up a lot for us. And for Jess and Avie and Mackie, Zoe, Sarah, and, and Yassie too. And, and I don't see why we should give up any less for our kids."
There was a weird, almost awkward silence.
"Zac, what are you getting at exactly?" Isaac asked. "What are you trying to tell us?"
"Well, umm, Hanson's been around for like, since I was what? 6? I'm 27. That's 21 years guys. Hey, it's old enough to go out to night clubs and start drinking!" he let out a small laugh at his stupid joke. "And, and it's been a great 21 years. Especially the last 16 when we've actually, y'know, been signed, and so recording and touring and it's all been totally awesome and, and, and I can't believe I'm saying this… I, I think that, umm, that it's time we uhh, we broke up."
Zac looked down at his food. Isaac and Taylor stared at him in stunned silence.
"You want to break up the band?" Taylor repeated.
"Well… look, if our parents only ever taught us one thing it was that family is important." Zac defended. "And I… you guys have families, big ones. Lots of kids - Ike. And I think that you guys should be spending more time with them."
Another silence.
"As much as I hate to say it, I think you're right Zac." Isaac said at last. "But, y'know, bands get back together all the time. Maybe we can do just that in a few years time. Or maybe, just release an album while we're still touring with our kids and maybe take time out to do five shows or whatever."
Taylor was watching Zac.
"Zac?" he asked. "What are you going to do?"
Zac was quiet for a moment.
"I, I don't really know." He admitted. "I, ahh, I've been working on a movie script with a friend of mine named Larry Hudson -"
"So that's who that guy is. We thought you were planning some elaborate prank." Taylor interrupted. "Wait? A movie?"
"Umm, yeah."
"And you didn't tell us?"
"Nope."
"You suck."
"Coming from you? I'll take that as a compliment." Zac grinned. "But umm, yeah, I'll probably try and get the movie done after the tour, but umm, after that… I don't know. I'm sure I'll figure something out. Besides, we have a record company don't we?"
"That we do." Isaac answered. "That we do."
