"What's wrong Zac?" Rita asked presently.
"Lanie just dumped me."
"Oh? But you were going so well."
"Yeah, that's what I thought."
"So, why? Did she give you a reason?"
Zac sighed again.
"Yeah…"
"Why? Oh, well, you don't have to tell me. It's none of my business."
"No, it's ok." He sighed again. "She met someone."
"Oh?"
"Yeah. You know that football player? Rojer Davis?"
"I've heard of him."
"She dumped me for him."
"Oh. I'm sorry."
Zac sighed unhappily.
"She dumped me for a football player Rita. I mean, c'mon. What's he got that I haven't got?"
Rita smiled.
"I don't know."
"It's not fair."
"I'm sure you'll find someone Zac. Lanie may not have been the right person for you."
Zac didn't answer.
"Come on." She coaxed. "I dare you to tell me something you couldn't stand about her."
Zac gave her an odd look, then paused.
"She was always fiddling with her earrings." He said at last. "It was distracting. And, and, and she made jokes about my motorcycles all the time. I swear it's a good thing they never met. Lanie would have hurt their feelings badly."
Rita tried not to laugh. Zac turned to her with a huge grin.
"Go on. Laugh. I know I'm being silly."
After that comment, Rita couldn't help but laugh.
