Chapter 48

Kelsey sat staring at the cell wall. A couple of the guys were making pitiful attempts at conversation in order to pass the time. But for the most part, they were silent.

A few of the guys looked up at the sound of the clanking doors as they opened and shut. Footsteps echoed down the couple of stairs. Kelsey paid it no mind.

"Kel?" came a voice.

She looked up and stared at the guy standing at the door of her cell while the police officer opened it.

"Zac? Like, what are you doing here?"

"Getting you outta this joint. Duh."

She was still staring at him as she stood up and walked out to him.

"I thought you like, didn't want to speak to me again." She accused.

"Hey! Kel!" called one of her tour 'friends'.

"Hey you." Zac retorted before Kelsey could reply. "If I ever find out who did this to Kel…"

He trailed off, leaving them to interpret them how they wished. He probably would have said something more except, y'know, they were in a police station and that's probably not the best place to make threats.

On that, they walked out.

"Hope is here." Zac continued. "She begged to come with me. She really likes you."

Kelsey smiled. Probably the first one in days.

"Why are you here?" she asked. "I like, called Babsie."

"Y'know, if I didn't know better I'd say you didn't want to talk to me!"

"It was like, a simple question. I mean, c'mon, you accused me of cheating on you. Like, as if I would ever do such a thing. You of all people should like, know me better than that."

Zac was silent.

"Yeah, I know. I'm sorry. But you have to admit, you can't blame me can you? I did see you kissing that guy."

"I was not kissing that two-faced, moronic, idiotic, filthy back-stabbing son of a bitch thank you very much. He happens to be so incredibly up himself that he thinks he can get any chick he wants. Jerk. In fact, the first time we met, he was trying to swipe the bike you gave me and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was the one who said I was in on the freaking scam."

"Gee, you didn't say 'like' once. He must have really made you mad."

Kelsey didn't answer.

"Look, I'm sorry. And, and I will admit it was Lanie - she's the woman I'm dating now - who convinced me to talk to you again."

"The supermodel huh?"

"Y'know, I've noticed that everyone seems to assume I'm dating her because she's a supermodel. Did it ever occur to you that I'm dating her because I like her as a person? Geez."

"Sorry. I guess I shouldn't like, assume things either - hi Hope!"

"Kel-Kel!" Hope exclaimed happily.

Hope bounded over to Kelsey and gave her a huge hug. Zac watched and smiled.
