Chapter 7

Zac pondered the situation. Isaac was spending the day with Alanna until she had to go to work. The public schools had finished for the day and Taylor had ditched him to hang out with Jade and her friends. So Zac was sitting alone at the shops with school kids pouring in. He was bored.

'Hmm.' He thought to himself suddenly. 'Now that's a good idea...'

You see, Zac had a little game. He didn't play it very often during their last tour due to lack of opportunity, but now...

He looked around, searching for a victim. There she was, in the music store, looking among the CD's in the pop section. Zac sauntered up to her, searching his mind for a cheesy pick-up line.

"Hey baby, I lost my phone number, can I have yours?"

The girl made a sound somewhere in between a disgusted groan and a giggle. She kept looking at the CD's, and didn't bother looking back at him.

"So, what does your boyfriend think he's doing letting you walk around alone instead of showing you off?" Zac continued.

"I don't have a boyfriend."

'How did I know that was coming?' Zac thought to himself.

"Really?" he asked, sounding surprised. "That's disgraceful. Obviously the other guys don't know what they're missing."

She turned to look at him at last. Then her eyes widened.

"Your - your Zac Hanson!" she gasped.

Zac put his finger to his lips.

"Shh. Yes, I am. What's your name?"

"Annika."

Zac smiled at her and ran his finger across her jaw line.

"So, can I get you a drink or something?"

"Oh, no, no, I'm fine."

"Ok, are you gonna get that?" he asked, gesturing to the CD in her hand.

"Uhh, yeah..."

"Here, let me pay."

"Uhh..."

Zac didn't give her a chance to reply. Instead he grabbed her wrist and the CD, and practically dragged her to the counter to pay for it himself.

"Whoa, uhh, thanks. But you didn't need to do that."

"Aww, that's ok. All I want in return is something to remember you by. After all, such a beautiful woman like yourself wouldn't want to hang around with a little kid like me." Zac answered, putting on a meek, I'm-not-worthy look on his face.

Annika smiled.

"Of course I would."

And to Zac's satisfaction, she wrote her phone number down for him. Then she said good bye and left. As soon as she was out of sight, Cassie joined him.

"I saw that. All of it." She said.

Zac gave her a grin and waved the paper in her face.

"Number twenty-six since I began in May." He said. "Only two failures so far."

"Ooh, you player Zac." She laughed.

Zac's eyes twinkled mischievously, and there was a partly proud, partly devilish, partly cheeky expression on his face.
