Some weeks later Taylor had reason to call Isaac.
“Guess what?” he asked.
“You’re mad and I’m not?”
“No.”
“I’m mad and you’re not?”
“No.”
“Zac’s mad and we’re not?”
“I think that’s pushing it.”
“We’re mad and Zac’s not?”
“I don’t think so.”
“Babsie’s mad and -”
“Ike?”
“Yeah?”
“Can it already.”
“Ohh. Oh okay, if you insist.”
“I do.”
“Hmph. Well, umm… what were we… oh yeah… you wanted me to guess what. And I was guessing, and you practically told me to stop so I think you’ll just have to tell me.”
“Umm, yeah. What you just said. Okay, cool. I have just gotten a call from Sam.”
“Yeah, so?”
“Mel’s pregnant.”
“Oh really?”
“Now, see, unlike you, I am getting grandchildren the fair way. By having kids who get married and have kids of their own, one at a time.”
“Is someone being a poor loser? Just because I have seven grandkids, and you only have… how many was that? One? With one on the way.”
“Hey, I’ll have you know, that we, your siblings, are definitely going to out grandkid you. No matter how much you cheat by having multiples.”
“Cheating? Hey what you all cheating I call, umm, nature.”
“Nature is it? Ha! Do you know that in some cultures long ago, and even some still today consider twins to be evil? And they kill either one or both thinking he, she or them to be demons or demon possessed?”
“Yeah, I heard that. I also heard that one set of these so called evil twins founded Rome.”
“Yeah? And look what happened to Rome! They assassinated their own ruler and ended up falling.”
“True, but where would we be without pizza?”
“I, huh, what?”
“Well, pizza is Italian. And Rome in is Italy. So there.”
“Erm right… Dude, I… see this is what I’m saying here. You’re starting to use Babsie’s distorted logic here. This is what I’m trying to tell you. Evil.”
“What? You’re trying to tell me that my wife is some sort of hell-spawned demon or something?”
“Yes.”
“All these years we’ve been married, and you choose now to tell me?”
“Well, you seemed so happy.”
“I was. And I still am.”
“Even though you have half demon children running around?”
“Half demon children? Okay, look, I think this is going a bit too far now Tay. I love ya, but there’s only so far I’ll let you go, man.”
“Oh sorry.”
“Gee, usually I’m telling Babsie she’s going too far. Never thought I’d be telling you.”
“Well, y’know, I have my moments.”
“So I see. Anyway, I’d love to stay and chat, but I have some demos to listen to.”
“Oh okay, cool. Anything interesting so far?”
“No, not especially today.”
“Hmm. Fair enough. Well, later Ike.”
“Bye Tay.”
