It was a couple of weeks before Xavier’s and Electra’s wedding anniversary, and Sam and Melissa were getting married.
“I’m sure they picked November just to irritate me,” Xavier muttered. “There are twelve months in the year and they had to pick the one we got married in.”
Electra just gave him an amused smile.
On the way to the reception, Adam spoke to the bridesmaid he had been paired up with, Melissa’s friend Debra.
“So, I guess this makes you the last unmarried member of 4A huh?” she commented.
“Guess so.”
“Do you think you will? Get married I mean.”
Adam shrugged.
“I don’t think I will,” Debra went on.
Later, at the reception hall, Mike tapped on his glass for everyone’s attention.
“Well, as best man, it is my duty, and my pleasure to give a little speech, but I don’t really have all that much to say about the matter. Except maybe that it’s about time. I mean, c’mon, Sam, everyone was predicting you’d get married before you turned nineteen. You’re twenty-two, what happened there huh? But umm… yeah,” he laughed. “Melissa, you’ve just married a really great guy, and I wish the two of you a lot of happiness in the future.”
Sam grinned.
“Y’know,” Babsie commented sidelong to Isaac, “just once I’d like to hear the best man say something like, Melissa, you’ve just married the worst possible guy you could have possibly married, but you’re in luck, it’s not too late for an annulment.”
“That’s so mean,” Isaac replied, trying not to laugh.
“Your point?”
Isaac just shook his head in amusement.
The food was great, as if anyone would have expected otherwise, and the day seemed to end as quickly as it started. Just before Sam and Melissa stepped into the car to head to the airport, Melissa threw the bouquet.
“I caught it!” Debra yelped, brandishing the flowers. “Go me!”
A few minutes later Adam wandered over to her.
“I though you said you didn’t think you’d ever get married,” he grinned, gesturing to the bouquet.
“Guess I got proved wrong,” she grinned.
Adam laughed.
“Well, that’s that,” Rita said to Taylor. “Two of our sons married now. Time goes so fast.”
“Yeah, it does huh?”
“They’re growing up so quickly.”
“Yep.”
“I feel old.”
“Well, you’re not. You’re as old as I am, it’s all cool.”
Rita smiled.
