Chapter 85

19 August 2024

Morgan would have returned to LA sooner, but Taylor had finally agreed to let her and Zac make a movie based on one of his books, “Midnight Kisses”. As of this moment, they were having an in depth discussion about it, and working on converting the chapters to scenes. She hadn’t spoken to Jesse since.

“What can I say to him?” she had asked Rita when confronted.

“I’m sure he’d like to know if you reciprocate for a start.”

Morgan sighed.

“I don’t know. Once I did, yes, but that was a teenage girl’s celebrity crush. This is different! I, I don’t know how I feel, and besides, look what he did to Caro! Because of me.”

“He did it because of himself,” Rita corrected. “Look, sweetie, it takes a lot for a guy to admit his feelings. In this case, he had to get drunk -”

“Mum -”

“I’m not trying to justify his leading Caroline on. That was inexcusable. However, you’re not doing any good by not talking to him, Morgan. These past few months have probably been driving him crazy not knowing.”

Morgan went away from that conversation only slightly more compelled to talk to him. But her mind was not on Jesse now, rather on how to write the scene between Fiona and Darren in the gazebo, after Lilly decided to swear off men, and become a nun.

The phone rang and Rita answered. A few minutes later she entered the room. She didn’t bother waiting for a break in the conversation (as father and daughter were both too enthralled in their writing) and said:

“Sarah has had her baby.”

“Really? When? What is it? What they call -” Taylor began.

“Yes, about three hours ago. It’s a boy, and they’ve named him Elijah Brian.”

“Elijah Brian,” Taylor tried the name out. “I like it.”

“Me, too,” Morgan agreed.

“Well, that’s good, considering we had no choice in the name,” Rita mused.

A few moments later Taylor and Morgan got back to work. After a couple of minutes, Taylor paused and regarded his daughter.

“Morgan, go call him.”

“Huh?”

“You just called Darren ‘Jesse’. For the second time, I might add, but I didn’t mention it before. Go call him.”

“Dad -”

“Morgan.”

Morgan pulled a face.

“Oh, okay, okay.”

“You’ll be glad you did.”

Morgan didn’t answer, but she got up and headed to the phone.
