Chapter 64

January 2023

There was cheering as Adam and Xavier walked onstage. They waved to all the fans in the studio audience.

“Hey guys, long time, not see,” greeted the host. “Welcome back.”

“Thanks,” they said together.

“Mike and Sam send their apologies,” Adam added. “They came down with the flu just before we left.”

“Oh, no.”

“They’re hoping to be able to join us before the promo tour finishes, but there are, sadly, no promises there.”

“Fair enough. Tell them we said they have to get well soon.”

“We will.”

“So, I was listening to this new album of yours -”

The interview went on.

“So Xavier, there's a rumour going around that you got married recently?”

“Yep. Two months ago. It was pretty cool. We had family from Oklahoma to California, so we had a progressive wedding.”

“A progressive wedding?”

“Yeah. It started in Oklahoma and ended in California,” he laughed.

“Umm… right… Ahem, well, there was another rumour that you married because she got pregnant?”

“Y’know, I've heard that one. I can't imagine where they got that idea. I mean, you don’t think Electra looks pregnant do you Adam?”

“Nope.”

“And why not? She's a month into it!”

Adam started.

“What really? Hey congrats! But, uhh, I think you answered your own question about not noticing there, Xavier. What woman starts showing after only a month?”

“Point taken. And anyway, I only found out for certain about an hour ago, and I’m still in that, ‘I gotta tell everyone kinda mood’, I’m so excited,” Xavier grinned.

“Not excited enough to tell me before the show, I see.”

“I was too busy on the phone.”

“Well, congratulations from us too, Xavier. Do you think you’re going to follow in your parents’ footsteps and have a bunch of kids too?”

Xavier stared.

“Drop dead. I think the answer to that question is purely up to my wife,” Xavier paused and a big smile crossed his face.

Adam rolled his eyes in amusement.

“In case you hadn’t noticed, Xavier is also still in Honeymoon mode.”

The host laughed.

“So what about you Adam? Seeing anyone at the moment?”

“As a matter of fact I am. It’s been pretty serious for a while now, actually.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. He and I have been together for over a year now.”

Silence.

“He?” the host replied uncertainly.

“He,” Adam confirmed.

“And they said I was the one most likely to be gay,” Xavier replied with a smirk.

“I feel it was important for me to come out with this,” Adam went on. “I talked to Xavier and my bros about it, because record sales have been known to go down when a member of the band or whatever admits to homosexuality, but they understood that this was something I had to do. There aren’t really many gay role models out there, so y’know… I’ve already been deemed a role model by so many people in media, I figure I should be the kind of role model I would want to look up to myself.”

Later that evening Adam joined Xavier and Electra for dinner, a frustrated look on his face.

“Uncle Taylor called?” Xavier guessed.

Adam nodded slowly.

“Didn’t like you coming out of the closet in public, huh?”

“Nope.”

“Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

“I wasn’t going to. Oh, hey, congratulations Electra.”

Electra smiled.

“Thanky.”
