“Well, actually, Kansas and Oklahoma are in the middle of the country, and all the people we’re inviting are in between Tulsa and California, so really we know people over half the country.”
“Very funny. This is important.”
“Yeah, I know. We could figure out which place has more people - California or Tulsa - and fly everyone else over.”
“Hmm…”
“Or maybe we could just meet in the middle. Although Kansas isn’t quite in the middle, and we certainly know less people there than in the other two states, but -”
“Maybe we should just go somewhere else altogether. Let’s get married overseas.”
“Hmm, Australia?”
“No, you have family there.”
“Who we weren’t planing on inviting…” Xavier paused. “Although, I should probably invite Auntie Psy.”
Electra groaned.
“Maybe we should just elope and not invite anyone.”
“Oooh… as tempting as the idea is… I don’t want to go to an early grave.”
“Yeah, me neither. Man, I knew that planning a wedding would be hard. I didn’t think it would be this hard.”
Suddenly Xavier started laughing.
“What’s so funny?”
“Okay, okay, I’ve got it, I’ve got it. Have you ever been on a progressive dinner?”
“Umm, no.”
“Okay, so what happens is that you go one house for the entrée, another house for the main course and another one for dessert. A house for each course, and as many courses you want. It’s even more fun if you have to follow clues. So what if we had a progressive wedding? We could have the actual ceremony in Tulsa or California, and then move on to Kansas and - at Marie’s wedding they had snacks after the ceremony, so that could be like our pre-reception snack, and then we move on to California or Tulsa and have our reception. And we can broadcast the wedding, and maybe the reception as well to everyone who can’t make it. Ohh! We can arrange to have receptions in Kansas and, umm, the other state, and have the broadcast of the reception hall wherever we are, play on a screen in each of the other halls that they’re in and -”
“Slow down, slow down!” Electra said, gasping out a giggle. “I love it! It’s crazy, but it makes the best solution.”
“You know you love me for my crazy ideas.”
“I love you for much more than that. But they sure do add a nice bonus.”
“Now all we have to do is figure out which state the ceremony and reception are going to be in.”
“Oh look, umm, most of the people who are going to have an actual role in the ceremony are in Tulsa. We can fly Dad and my friends down, and they can come with us on the way back to Cali. There. Settled.”
“Oh good. Now next things on the list. Place for the ceremony, places for the reception, umm, oh a place for our pre-reception snack.”
“Mom’ll love organising the pre-reception. I’ll ask her if she’ll mind. I know she’ll surprise us with something wonderful.”
“Great. We could probably get away with having the Tulsa reception hall in the ballroom here. Mum and Dad won’t mind at all,” then he frowned. “Unless they plan on following us to Cali. I think we should give people the option of following us on the progression.”
“Option, for some people, yes. I guess we’ll have to put a limit on how many though. But I think it should be mandatory for anyone in the bridal party.”
“Why do they call them bridal parties?” Xavier mused. “What about the groomal party?”
“I think we just worked that one out,” Electra laughed.
