Chapter 85

Harry seemed to wake up. He looked at her, looking a little startled.

"Umm, ahh, well..."

"Wait a second... your name's Harry?"

He nodded slowly, seemingly unable to say a word.

"Would that happen to be short for Harrison? Harrison Walters?"

"Walters?" Isaac repeated. "Isn't that your -"

"Yes, yes it is." Harry interrupted.

Babsie stared at him, a furious, hateful glare on her face. She turned to Isaac.

"I'll meet you guys back at the bus."

On that, she got out of her seat and strode away. Isaac took one look at everyone and a curious glance at Harry, then got up and followed her.

"Babs?" he called. "Hey Babs."

He grabbed her wrist and she stopped and looked at him.

"What do you want?" she asked.

"I want to know what that was all about."

"That creature, is my father."

Babsie wrenched her arm away from him and started walking.

"Your father?" Isaac repeated, catching up with her. "Babs, you never talk about your parents. I, I always thought your father was dead."

"I wish he was."

"No don't say that -"

"Well, that's easy for you to say!" Babsie exploded. "You have a wonderful relationship with your Dad."

"Yeah, well, maybe I do. But I don't remember much of it." He replied evenly.

Babsie glowered at him for a moment.

"He and Mum always fought for as long as I can remember. It seemed jolly-well normal to me, I grew up like that. Then one day, when I was eight, my Mum tells us at the dinner table that she has cancer, and she's dying. The next day, he walked out."

There was silence for a moment.

"Damn it Ike! He blasted well walked out with the full knowledge that she was dying. He obviously never cared about her, and certainly never gave a stuff what happened to me. So excuse me if I want him to stay out of my life with the efficiency that he left it."

Without another word she moved away, leaving Isaac to stare after her for a moment before returning where they were all sitting.
